Robert was born June 9, 1928 at Sewell, WV the son of the late Armick Malay and Carmel Cox Malay. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years Pauline Keith Malay. Robert was a retired coal miner for the Imperial Colliery Company and was a member of the U.M.W.A. Robert attended the First Brethren Church of Oak Hill and was a member of the Oak Hill Moose Lodge; He was a U. S. Army Veteran where he achieved the rank of Corporal. Those left to cherish his memory include his eight children Bobby and wife Cozette, Jim an d wife Helen, Sam, Rick, Mike, Benita and husband Duke, David and wife Bev, and Susie, 19 grandchildren Keith, Kevin, Kylie, Kendall, Amy, Kelly, Karen, Ricky, Andy, Caitlin, Caleb, Jennifer, Jessica, Julia, Jeanette, Sloane, Alexis, Daniel, and Abigail, 12 great grandchildren, and a brother Loren Malay. His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel 1435 E. Main St. Oak Hill where the family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday and where the funeral will be held 11am Wednesday with Rev. William Skeldon officiating. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Barnett; a brother, Lorenzie Malay; two sisters, Margie Hizer and Arlene Bottomly. Helena attended Chestnut Knob Baptist Church of Layland, was a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She touched the lives of so many people. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory, include her husband of 60 years, Porter "Buddy" Barnett; three daughters, Belva Sheaves and husband, Gary "Michael" of Danese, Jeanette Newman and husband, Wayne of Rupert, and Gina Ferrell and husband, Jeremy of Layland; a son, Mark Barnett of Lewisburg; a stepson, Loren Malay of Hico; a brother, Bob Malay of Oak Hill; seven grandchildren, Rodney Sheaves, Johnny Sheaves, Kelley Justice, Brandon Holcomb, Kerri Martin, Gracie Ferrell and Grant Ferrell; three step grandchildren, Brad, Lori and John Malay; nine great-grandchildren, Travis, Peyton, Ashleigh, Bailey, Brianna, Whittney, Brittney, Jaycob, and Dylan; three step great-grandchildren, Dylan, Chasey and Olivia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Chestnut Knob Baptist Church of Layland, with Pastor Floyd Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. on April 12, 2012.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helena Barnett, of 60 years, 2 sons, Jerry Wayne and Loren, 2 brothers, Fred and Ralph, and 5 sisters, Dorothy, Ethel, Ruth, Juanita and Mae. He was a retired coal miner of 38 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the UMWA. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Melody Stull of Mount Lookout and Armicia Hunt of Danese; four sons, Faron Hizer of Rainelle, Bruce "Buddy" Hizer, Bernard Hizer and Gale Hizer, all of Indianapolis; two stepsons, Gary Harrah of Hico and Loren Malay of Beckley; six sisters, Lucille Rose of North Olmstead, Ohio, Rosalee Rhoden of Eau Gallie, Fla., Marilyn Kesslerof Rainelle, Bonnie Berry and Dorothy Mohan, both of Baltimore, and Betty McClung of Englewood, Colo; a brother, Leon Hizer of Sandusky, Ohio; 16 grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Lou Grimmett Malay; a son, Dana Scott Malay and his wife, Melissa, of Oak Hill; two adopted sons, Robert Clayton Wriston and Andrew Kyle Wriston, both at home; two daughters, Tina Yvonne Blevins and her husband, Jeff, of Oak Hill and Dawn Devere Williams and her companion, Donald Ellison, of Oak Hill; an adopted daughter, Sharee Nicole Wriston, at home; a brother, Robert Eugene Malay Sr. and his wife, Pauline, of Oak Hill; two sisters, Arlene Bottomly and her husband, Jack, of Danese and Helena Barnett and her husband, Porter, of Danese; seven grandchildren; and his best friend, Joey Adkins.
