Samuel David Moran of Route 1, Check, died at the scene of the accident about 3:50 p.m., said state Trooper W.T. Hall. Moran was traveling west on Virginia 615 at high speed when he went into a slight, downhill curve, Hall said. He lost control and hit an oak tree about 12 feet off the side of the road.
