Johnson; a brother, Randolf Prillaman, both of Roanoke; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ruby Wickham Sisson; a sister-in-law, Sara Prillaman (who was so dedicated to her care and well being). Beatrice was co-owner of Wickham Furniture Company on East Campbell Avenue, a member of Colonial Avenue Baptist Church, and an avid bridge player. She was born in Franklin County. Interment will follow in Sherwood Burial Park. on December 27, 2000.1

Poff of Roanoke; a son, P. Wayne Poff of Richmond; a grandson, Donald E. Poff, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Martha P. Hartberger; and a brother, Walter F. Poff, Sr. both of Roanoke, and a number of nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on June 29, 1999.2

Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery at Shenandoah. on January 18, 1985.6

He also pastored in the Bluefield area. He was a member of the Matoaka Kiwanis Club and served as president for two consecutive terms. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in China, India and Africa. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Reba C. Poff; two sons, Rev. Clyde R. Conner of Indian Valley, Va., and Massie C. Poff Jr., of Salem; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Powers of Waterville, Maine. Mrs. Davie Clayton and Mrs. Katheryn Conner, both of Roanoke; eight grand children; three brothers, James T. Poff of Conneaut, Ohio, Phillip O. and Walter F. Poff, both of Roanoke; three sisters, Mrs. Nell Kasey of Roanoke, Mrs. Martha Heart burger of Roanoke and Mrs. Naomi Stanley of Shenandoah, Va. Burial will be in the Virginia Conference Pentecostal Holiness Church Headquarters Cemetery in Dublin. on March 27, 1982.7

A respected realtor in the Roanoke Valley for more than 25 years, he was a member of the Roanoke Valley Board of Realtors and president for the year of 1991. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Barbara Mullins Poff; two sons, Walter F. Poff, Jr. and David Kevin Poff and wife, Nancy of Roanoke; two daughters, Ann Poff Hall and husband, Larry of Chesapeake, Carole Poff Stone and husband, Bryan of Forest; grandchildren, Barbara Poff Fischer and husband, Chris of Clifton, Va., Dannielle and Zach Hall, Kelly and Keri Stone, Franklin Wade Poff; and a special granddaughter, Laura Poff Snyder and husband, Robert of Haymarket, Va; three great-grandchildren, Alan Edwards, Lyndsey Castelle and Alex Fischer; a sister, Martha Hartberger of Roanoke; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Beard, Edith Sarver and Reba Poff, all of Roanoke, Barbara Poff of Conneaut, Ohio; a brother-in-law, David Mullins of Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. He had a multitude of friends and was like a father to many. The family extends a special thanks to the Roanoke Memorial EM staff, Dr. Donata, John Elliott, Dr. Weaver, Dr. Dorsey and group, the 12 West nursing staff, and NTICU nurses, Amy, Susana, Chris and Peter for their care and kindness. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military honors by the U.S. Navy. on April 4, 2002.1

In addition to her parents, Ollie was preceded in death by her husband, Homer “Red” Shreve; son, David Shreve; grandson, and Jeffrey Durham. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pam Durham and Karen Noell and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren, Corrinna Newbanks, Bobbi Shreve, Stephanie Shreve, Scott Noell, Tammie Brewster, and Betty Noell; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Haynes, Roanoke, Charlotte H. and Johnson S. Moore, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Elizabeth H. and Michael A. Lemacks, Raleigh, N.C; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Kathryn and Meredith Haynes, Evan and Ryan Moore, Megan and Erica Lemacks; two brothers and sister-in-law, Fred C. Hale and Ruth K. Hale, Indianapolis, Ind., and Marvin L. Hale, Roanoke. A graveside service will be at Sherwood Memorial Park, 11 a.m. Monday, January 8, 1996, with the Rev. Robert L. Watts and the Rev. Walter M. Marvin Lewis Hale Lt. Col. Marvin Lewis Hale, United States Air Force, Retired, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the age of 95. He was born on November 17, 1929, in Roanoke, VA, the son of Morgan C. Hale and Blanche Slone Hale of Roanoke. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two older brothers, Alvin C. Hale of Roanoke, VA, and Fred C. Hale of Indianapolis, IN. Marvin attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute for Civil Engineering prior to his acceptance into the U.S. Aviation Pilot Cadet Program. Thereafter he pursued his lifelong desire to fly and completed a career as a pilot in the United States Air Force. Following his completion of pilot training, he was assigned as a pilot in the 1739 Ferrying Squadron and ferried multiple types of aircraft to bases all over the United States and Europe. Later he served in Vietnam where he flew combat reconnaissance missions during the war. He flew 162 missions in the combat zones and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross Award for "heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight." After completion of that assignment, he returned to the United States where he completed his military career at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana. For many decades, Marvin was actively engaged in Family Genealogical Research and successfully traced his family genealogy back to the 1700s. He also participated in a supporting role for the Franklin County Historical Society for many years. Marvin chose his birthplace, Roanoke, VA, as his retirement home and will be interred in the family plot at Sherwood Burial Park in Salem, VA.1 He was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.1 He was born on November 17, 1929 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,3 He married Josephine Taylor Gray on July 15, 1966 at Bethesda, Montgomery Co., Maryland.3 Marvin Lewis Hale and Josephine Taylor Gray were divorced on March 21, 1979 at Roanoke, Virginia.3 Marvin Lewis Hale died on December 27, 2024 at Virginia at age 95.1

She was the daughter of William and Lula Poff. She was united in marriage to Charles D. Parker on July 26, 1941. He preceded her in death October 13, 1991. The two were married for more than 50 years. Gladys worked at several department and notions stores in her lifetime, but she enjoyed more than 30 years of employment with Beall's Department Store, including the Winter Garden branch. Mrs. Parker was an active member of her Sunday School class at Powers Drive Baptist Church, before moving to Golden Pond. Gladys made many friends during her lifetime as a resident of West Orange County. She is survived by children and spouses; Patricia (Frank) Russell, Reston, Virginia; Charles (Denise) Parker, Apopka, Florida; Deborah (Charlie) Gano, Apopka, Florida. Along with 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Barry Lynn Parker in 1979, her sister Marilyn Poff, her sister Thelma Dooley, her brother William Poff, her sister Norma Wiseman, her sister Bonnie Chewning. on May 29, 2014.8

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Edward Walker; sons, Larry Walker (Nona) of Roanoke, Mark Walker (Sandra), of Westminster, Md., Dean Walker (Carol), of Eugene, Ore; and daughter, Brenda Simmons (Larry), of Salem; grandchildren, Rebecca, Ryan, Emily, Jesse, Anna, Jenny, Hallie, Graham, Clay, Matthew, and a special grandchild and caregiver, Michelle Sachenbacher. Eleven great-grandchildren also survive. The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, as well as Tiffany and Kathren, for all of their love and care. on August 18, 2013.3

Edith Margaret Poff Edith Margaret Poff Bova, 100, passed away early on Monday, December 15, 2025. She was born on March 26, 1925, to Clarence L. Poff Sr. and Ardelia T. Poff who both preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ruth Poff Townsend Thomas and brother, Clarence "Ozzie" Poff Jr. Her loving husband, Frank W. Bova Sr., preceded her in death after 50 years of marriage. Together, they owned and operated Bova Distributing Company for many years, Through their lifetime together, they enjoyed many activities such as camping, traveling in the United States and other countries. Edith was one of the initial volunteers at Roanoke's Discovery Shop which benefits cancer research. Each week she often enjoyed providing her co-workers and friends with special little "candy treats." Spring and Summer were always a special time so that she, family and friends could enjoy her beautiful flower gardens. Edith is survived by her two sons, Frank W. "Bill" Bova Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Roanoke and Richard A. "Ricky" Bova Sr. and wife, Eileen, of Florida; two grandchildren, Michelle A. 'Missy" Cruz (Tom) of Leland, NC and Richard A. "Ritchie" Bova Jr. of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Jordan Cruz of Oregon and Ty Cruz of Miami, Florida; step-grandchildren, Jacob Dunahoo (Amber) and Evan and Tori Collins; and step great-granddaughter, Madyleine Dunahoo. She is also survived by a nephew, Lynn Townsend (Barbara) and nieces, Bonnie Harris and Sandra Wilkerson. Several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. For the last 10 years, she was blessed to have the comfort, compassion and friendship of five faithful and loving caregivers, Kathy Wilkie, Peggy Perrin, Betty Scott, Carol Hackney, and Debbie Lee. The family will be forever grateful for their service and will always consider them a part of the family. She will be entombed alongside her beloved husband immediately following the service at Sherwood Memorial Park.5

Jackson, Va; five granddaughters and two grandsons; 23 great-grandchildren and 40 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services Monday at 11 a.m. in the Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Floyd, with the Rev. Elbert L. Naff officiating. Interment will be in Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd. A special thanks to the staff of Richfield 3 East for all the special care and love given to our mother. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home. on December 16, 2001.1
