He is survived by his wife, Paige Vandergrift, son Michael Vandergrift, daughter Sarah Oberhofer, son-in-law Justin Oberhofer, grandchildren Vincent Oberhofer and Emma Oberhofer, sister-in-law Margaret Coffey, nieces Jan Coffey and Jean Coffey, family friend Donna Gentile, and numerous cousins. He is also survived by his brother Everett Hall of Christiansburg, Va; and his two sisters, Marie Tolbert of Boonesmill, Va. and Betty McFarland of Richmond Va. Herman was born in McDowell County, W.Va., June 24, 1933. At the age of 16, he moved to Floyd County, Va., where he met Etta Mae Link at "The Head of the River." They married in 1951 and settled in Christiansburg Va. From 1953-1955, Herman served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea for 17 months.Throughout his life, Herman loved anything with wheels. He even made a career with that love, driving for Trailways and Mason Dixon. He also loved wagons, bicycles, motorcycles, go-carts, cars, trucks, tractors and even airplanes. His five grandchildren have all used him as their "mechanic of choice" and his five great-grandchildren, who call him P. Pops, have also acquired his love for things with wheels. Graveside services will be held at Rest Vale Cemetery, Cooper Hill, Va. on May 2, 2014.6
