Amos, 85, died at 11:10 a.m. today at his farm home 4 1/2 miles northwest of Strauss. He had been in failing health six months and suffered a paralytic stroke Christmas eve. His condition had been critical since that time. He was born at Shelbyville, Ind, on Oct. 25, 1864 and at the age of 10 came to Kansas with his parents, who settled in the Lakeview vicinity north of Strauss. He had lived on the same farm since 1902. His first marriage was to Sarah Clary of McCune on July 10, 1887. She died July 17, 1937. On March 1942 he was married at Mcune to Mrs. Ada Dunaway of Fort Smith, Ark. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Eulalia Zimmerman of McCune; five sons, Orville and Ernest, both of Erie, Ray of Parsons, Cecil of Shreveport, La., and Ralph of Melvern, Ark; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lola Stroud of FL Smith, Ark, and Mrs. Mildred Hargrove of Chanute; one step-son, Floyd Dunsway of Ft. Smith; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Snider, Wewoka, Ok; two half-sisters, Mrs. Florence Bond, Nempa, Ida, and Mrs. Clara Newman of Butterfield, Mo; one half-brother, Bert Amos, McCune; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the United Chnpel Methodist church, north of McCune, and a member of McCune lodge No. 237, A. F. & A. M. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the McCune Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. John Groen of Parsons, and the Reverend Taylor of McCune. Burial will be in McCune cemetery. on January 21, 1950.6

He was an electrician by trade and he came to Parsons in 1925. At one time he was in partnership with Frank Hornback in an electrical business. He was in business by himself at the time of his retirement in 1960. He and Cora Beck were married on May 14, 1974, in Parsons. She survives of the home at 1900 Belmont. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Parsons, the Parsons Masonic Lodge No 117 A.F. & A.M., and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Other survivors include: one daughter, Betty Cotton of Durant, Okla; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a step-son, Don Beck of Geneseo, Ill; two stepdaughters, Rosanna Talbot of Olathe and Virginia Kerley of Parsons; 12 step-grandchildren; 16 step-greatgrandchildren, and three step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Burris-Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with graveside military rites. Masonic rites will be held at the funeral home at the time of the service. on January 18, 1984.7

Amos, 2419 Grand, died at 10 a.m. today in the Labette County Medical Center. She was 69 and entered the hospital Easter Sunday. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Dixon, she was born May 3, 1900, near McCune. She grew to womanhood near St. Paul and attended LCCHS at Altamont and the college at Pittsburg. She taught rural schools in Labette and Neosho Counties for several years, retiring in 1926. On June 25, 1919, she and Amos were married at Erie. They have made their home in Parsons since 1926. In addition to the husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J. C. (Betty) Cotton, Durant. Okla; two brothers, the Rev. Lloyd Dixon, Caney, and Charles Dixon, Bakersfield, Calif; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Mrs. Rita March of Parsons, was raised in the Amos home. Mrs. Amos was a charter member of the Parsons Church of the Open Bible where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Richard W. Howard. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery.1 She was born on May 3, 1900 at McCune, Crawford Co., Kansas.1 As of June 25, 1919,her married name was Amos.1 She married Ray Almy Amos, son of James H. "Cliff" Amos, 82, a longtime resident of Erie, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul. He had been in failing health for several years. He was born on Aug. 18, 1922, in McCune to Orville and Audrey (Atkinson) Amos. The family moved to the Erie area, where he was raised and attended schools. He entered the United States Navy while he was in high school and served for 20 years. He served during World War II and the Korean War and was stationed in the Philippines, Texas, Memphis, Tenn., and Olathe during his service. He moved back to Erie in the early 1960s and was a self-employed carpenter. He retired in 1986. He married Madonna Schoenhofer on Oct. 1, 1946, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. She survives at Prairie Mission Retirement Village. He enjoyed fishing, camping and coaching his sons' baseball teams. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie, Knights of Columbus Council No. 760 of St. Paul; a life member of George L. Hendricks Post No. 102, American Legion in Erie; a life member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Parsons; and the Beantown Ramblers. In his earlier years he was active in the Erie High School Booster Club. Survivors include three sons, Wayne Amos of Kansas City, Kan., Mike Amos of Memphis and Joe Amos of Wichita; two daughters, Donna Bohrer of Erie and Mary Ann Smith of San Jose, Calif; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Amos; a granddaughter, Sonya Theresa Bohrer; two brothers, Norman Amos and Bernard Amos; and one sister, Nola Amos. The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie with the Rev. Daniel Vacca officiating. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery. The parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the church, where the family will receive friends afterward. Friends may call Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home until 5 p.m. today, when the casket will be moved to the church. Memorials to Prairie Mission Village chapel fund or Alzheimer's Association may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 182, Erie, Kan., 66733. on October 10, 2004.3
