He was sixteen years of age at the time of his enlistment. On September 23, 1864 he was captured by General Sheridan's forces at Strasburg and sent as a prisoner of war to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. He was transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland on September 30, 1864 arriving there on October 3, 1864. On October 16, 1864 he was released from prison on joining the United States Service.1 He was born on November 3, 1847 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.1 He married Mary Elizabeth Ingram, daughter of Elkanah Turner "Elkany" Ingram and Matilda Ann Willis, on January 14, 1875 at Floyd Co., Virginia.4,1 Thomas Monroe Yeatts died on March 10, 1927 at Floyd Co., Virginia, at age 79.1

Lowell was employed by Shenandoah Industrial Rubber Company in Roanoke. He was a much loved and well respected servant of his community, an active member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and retired after 25 years of service with Bent Mountain Fire & Rescue. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday August 1, 2007 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Copper Hill, with the Rev. Greg Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. Memorial donations may be made to Mt.      Clyde Eastel Spencer was buried at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia.2 He Clyde E. Spencer, 78, of Martinsville, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Meherrin in Loudoun County on Aug. 21, 1929, to Jefferson Davis Spencer and Maggie Dollarhite Spencer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle S. Fain; and five brothers, Dewey Edwards, Murray Edwards, Raymond Edwards, Johnny Spencer and Charlie Spencer. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He retired from Tultex, where he worked for many years as supervisor in the cutting room. He attended First Baptist Church in Ridgeway. Surviving are his wife, Ruby R. Spencer of the home; and one sister, Mabel E. Cooper of Martinsville.
