     Melvin Thomas "Tommy" Jordan Sr. Melvin T. “Tommy” Jordan, Sr., 79, of Troutville, died Sunday, May 03, 2015 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Tommy was born in Boones Mill March 18, 1936 and lived in Troutville for more than 30 years. He was the son of the late Rufus Thomas and Mary Florence Hardin Jordan. Tommy was a truck driver, retiring from the Kroger Company. He was a bluegrass music enthusiast and was a member of the James River Music Hall in Eagle Rock and the Fiddle and Banjo Club. In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brother Jack Jourdan and sisters Matilda “Tillie” LaPradd and Hazel Fink. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann (Hale) Jordan; son and daughter-in-law Melvin and Dawn Jordan, Jr. of Roanoke; grandson Nicholas Jordan; brothers Buddy Jordon of Ferrum, Virginia and Danny Layton of Boones Mill, Virginia; and all of his Bluegrass buddies.2 He was born on March 18, 1936 at Boones Mill, Franklin Co., Virginia.2,1 He married Shelby Ann Hale, daughter of Frank Wilson Hale Sr. and Elsie May Aldridge, on October 18, 1965 at South Carolina.3,2 Melvin Thomas "Tommy" Jordan Sr. died on May 3, 2015 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 79.2

Olivet Baptist Church, Copper Hill, with the Rev. Greg Mills officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd.      Rachel Jacqueline "Jackie" Roberson Rachel Jaqueline (Jackie) Compton, of Martinsville, Va., passed away Monday, August 26, 2019. She is survived by her husband, Fred R. Compton; two daughters, Tiffany and Tara Compton; and nieces and nephews. Jackie was born in Bassett, Va., March 23, 1940 to Willie Lewis Roberson and Bertha Aldridge Roberson. She was the youngest of four sisters and one brother. She graduated from Bassett High School and continued her education at RPI, now known as VCU in Richmond. Her adventurous spirit led her to become a selected flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, one of her proudest lifetime achievements. On November 7, 1964 she became the beautiful bride of Lieutenant Fred Compton and retired her wings to become Mrs. Jackie Compton. Jackie and Freddy journeyed through life together for 55 beautiful years. While raising her two girls, in 1975 Jackie embarked on a career path to become a Realtor, a profession she thoroughly enjoyed for a span of 30 years. She was a member of The Martinsville Garden Club, and loved sharing and teaching flower arranging to others. She was also a member of the Wednesday Book Club, was very involved with First Methodist Church, and was active in the Wesley Guild. One of her greatest passions was playing the pipe organ, a hobby she cultivated later in life. She was a substitute organist at Christ Episcopal, First United Methodist and Forrest Hills Presbyterian Churches. Jackie carried her charm and grace, her clever wit and her genuine love to all of the many lives she touched. Her deep and heartfelt concern for others was her hallmark, always there with a smile and words of encouragement. Her zest for life was infectious and she lived every minute of her life to its fullest. She was the best friend you could ever have, a loving wife, a nurturing and dedicated mother and most of all a beautiful unforgettable bright star whose light will shine in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.4 She was born on March 23, 1940 at Bassett, Virginia.1,4,5 As of November 7, 1964,her married name was Compton.3 She married Freddy Randall Compton on November 7, 1964 at Bassett, Virginia.2,8,3,4 Rachel Jacqueline "Jackie" Roberson died on August 26, 2019 at Martinsville, Virginia, at age 79.4

     Zora Mae Goode married Lynwood Doyle Roberson, son of Willie Lewis Roberson and Bertha Clyde Aldridge.1,2,3,4,7 Zora Mae Goode Zora Mae Roberson, 84, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019. Born April 27, 1935, Zora was one of twelve children to the late Joseph and Della Mae Starkey Goode. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Clarice Cundiff, Vestie Bennett, Cathlene Allison, and Nora Beck; brothers, Willie, Pat, Edgar, Albert, Aubrey, and Raymond Goode. Left to cherish her memory include her sons, Stephen and Mark Roberson; granddaughters, Molly and Lindsay Roberson and their mother, Heidi; brother, Randy Goode; special niece, Linda Baxley; and longtime special friend, Ray Bullins. Zora will also be missed by a host of other relatives and friends. Zora was a member of Martinsville First United Methodist Church. She retired from DuPont, having worked as a Lab Technician. She was a lover of all food, especially home-made cakes and pies. She will be remembered for her family-famous deviled eggs. Zora was also a NASCAR fan with a special love and following of Bill Elliott. A graveside service will be conducted at Roselawn Burial Park's Alcove of Peace.5 She was buried at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia.5 Her married name was Roberson.
