Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 24, 1995, with the Rev. Jerry L. Cloninger, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Gearheart Cemetery, Roanoke County. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Family Service of Roanoke Valley, 3208 Hershberger Road, N. W., P. O. Box 6600, Roanoke, Va. 24017, or to the Mt. Pleasant Rescue Squad. He enjoyed his ham radio, woodworking, golf, and spending time with his grandchildren and all his four-legged companions. He was a member of Belmont Christian Church for more than 60 years where he served as an elder. Burial will follow at the Gearheart Family Cemetery. on May 23, 2022.5

     Judith Ann "Judy" Weaver Judith Ann Weaver Furrow, 78 of Moneta, Virginia passed away on October 14, 2018. Judy was born in Roanoke on July 16, 1940, daughter of the late Russell and Virginia Weaver. She was raised in the Mount Pleasant area, graduating from William Byrd High School. She earned her B.S. in Education from Radford University and taught elementary school for a couple of years prior to dedicating her life to her family and raising her children. She also found time to continue teaching by offering tutoring services and to pursue her love of crafts by opening a miniatures shop. Later in life, she and her husband Roger fulfilled their dream of planting a vineyard and opening a winery where she spent her retirement years. Judy was active in the Smith Mountain Lake area through her membership in Girls Raised In The South (GRITS) and the Smith Mountain Lake Area Wine Club. Judy loved gardening, all types of crafts and cooking, but mostly enjoyed spending special moments with her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Roger Furrow; her son Tad Furrow, wife Rebecca; daughter Wendy Furrow-Scott, husband Donald and three very special grandchildren Ryan, Nathan and Tura. She is also survived by her brother Coy Weaver, wife Deanna and her sister Lois Weaver, partner Peggy Shaw.4 She was born on July 16, 1940 at Roanoke, Virginia.2,3,4 She married Roger Wayne Furrow, son of Roy Everett Furrow and Alberta Susan Meador, on June 30, 1962 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,2,4 As of June 30, 1962,her married name was Furrow.2 Judith Ann "Judy" Weaver died on October 14, 2018 at Virginia at age 78.4

Gertrude was born on June 11, 1916, in Roanoke to William and Blanche Weaver. Gertrude grew up in Roanoke. She graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in Roanoke in 1937. After high school, she attended Radford College in Radford, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1940. Gertrude taught at Mount Pleasant Elementary School in Roanoke County for 37 years. Gertrude married Robert Basil Lester in July 1945, in Roanoke. They were married for 40 years. Gertrude was a member of The Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifetime member of Parent Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Writers Club; she enjoyed writing poems and short stories. She received many certificates for her poems from World of Poetry. Gertrude loved time spent with family and friends, Virginia Tech football games, trips, antiquing and holidays. Gertrude is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Shirley Lester of Chesapeake, Mike and Mary Lester of Smith Mountain Lake; her grandchildren, Christopher (Chris) and Nicholas (Nick) Lester; her great-grandchild, Dorian Lester; and nieces and nephews and other relatives. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, William and Blanche Weaver; her brothers, Roy, Hubert, Lawrence, Eugene, Russell, Marvin and Eldridge Weaver; sisters, Martha Anne Weaver, Minnie Johnson and Mildred Martin. The family is so appreciative of the help and support of Shelby Howell, Chris Lester, Megan Flora, Allen Perry, Sharlea Blair, Bonnie Nunley, Linda Arnold, Ynell Brumfield, Stephanie Smith, Brenda Gardner, April Gray, Debbie Workman and Patty Beasley. We would also like to thank the following facilities for their care and support, Superior Pheasant Ridge, Village of Pheasant Ridge, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Springtree Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Medi Home Health, Medi Home Health and Hospice Franklin County and Smith Mountain Lake Memory Care Unit Runk & Pratt.
