Foy Willis Watson Jr. was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5250 Robert Centre Byrd Drive, Prosperity, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.2,3 He was born on February 4, 1931 at West Virginia.1,2,3 He married Dorothy Victoria Pennington on July 2, 1953 at Matheny, Wyoming Co., West Virginia.9,6 Foy Willis Watson Jr. died on May 31, 1958 at Palm Beach Co., Florida, at age 27.2,3,5 He Broward County Trucker Drowns in Canal. A 27 year old West Hollywood truck driver drowned early Saturday and the swift running Hillsborough Canal 6 miles west of State Rd. 7 in Palm Beach County, despite the frantic efforts of other truckers to toss him a makeshift buoy. Foy Watson, who lived in an apartment at a N. State Rd. 7 truck stop, died when his loaded dump truck skidded off the narrow Hillsboro Rd. as he headed west from Deerfield Beach. Witnesses said the rock filled vehicle apparently hit a soft shoulder and went out of control down the steep canal bank. Watson's body was recovered at 11:30 a.m. By Ross Henderson, 31, Deerfield Beach-Pompano Beach funeral director, grappling from a search boat operated by Sam Curry, 42, of 1064 SW First Terr., Pompano Beach. Been Rastelli, 27, of 4843 SW 44th Terr., Fort Lauderdale, one of the first witnesses to scramble down the canal bank, said Watson somehow escaped from the truck and broke the water surface momentarily. "The truck was completely underwater," Rastelli said, "and then I saw his hand reach up for a minute." Rastelli said he threw a board towards Watson's outstretched hands but the victim disappeared without closing his fingers. Rastelli was driving one of the three dump trucks headed East a short distance from the spot where Watson's heavy vehicle careened off the rut pocketed gravel road. Pompano Beach lifeguards Paul Hurt and Phil Shiver rushed to the remote seen in the Pompano Beach Fire Department ambulance, dove repeatedly in a fruitless search for Watson. The truck, turned on its right side, was recovered and 15 to 20 feet of water. Deputy Sheriff John Berger brought grappling hooks from Fort Lauderdale and the body was recovered after a brief hunt, 3o feet from the point where the truck went in. Watson, a veteran of World War II, was employed by Russell W. Shaw, of 5841 Lincoln St., West Hollywood. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Dinah Watson of Prosperity, W. Va; two brothers, Paul and David, and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Rosenburom and Miss Alice Watson, all of West Virginia. on June 1, 1958.5
