Myrtle Arlee "Lucy" Richards Myrtle “Lucy” Arlee Richards Acord, 89, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 following a short illness. She was the daughter of the late William P. Richards and Mary Ashby Richards. Born December 22, 1926 in Sophia, WV. Lucy attended First Church of God in Lester. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, quilting, canning, shopping and being with her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Acord; sons, Arnold and Rodney Acord; brother, Bud Richards; sisters, Nora Richards, Clara Wiley, Ethel Martin and Ceretha Tedder. Those left to cherish her memory includes her sons, Lawrence Richards and wife Beth of Beckley, Leonard Acord of Odd, Jeffrey Acord of Sandstone and John Acord of Beckley; daughters, Stella Asbury and husband Rodger of Beckley, Wilma Ward and husband Donald of Ghent and Penny Young of Beckley; brothers, Howard Richards of Charleston and Johnny Richards of Glen White; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Friends may gather with the family Monday, September 12, 2016 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home from 12-1pm. Funeral service will be held Monday, September 12, 2016 at 1pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Birchfield officiating. Born December 12, 1924, at Glen White, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Willa (Miller) Wheeler. She was a member of the Glen White Missionary Baptist Church of Glen White where she taught Sunday school for 26 years. She was a homemaker and a retired employee of the Raleigh County Board of Education. Husband, Earl Acord, and three sons, Earl, Rodger and Sam, daughter-in-law, Maria, son-in-law, Donald Rink, four brothers, Sam (Bob), William (Bill), Tommy and Donald, one grandson and one granddaughter preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Earlene Rink of Dallas, N.C., Vicki Cohran of Kings Mountain, N.C., Mary (Carlos) Garten of Beckley, Willa (Coy) Willis of Maysville, N.C., Charles (Debbie) Acord of Greenup, Ky., and Neta (Bill) Pressley of Leesburg, Ga., and sisters, Ineta Gray, June Romage, Gloria Fetchum, Ardeana Pittman, Beth Chastain, and Sandy Smith. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 5 stepgrandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving, generous and inspiring woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A celebration of life will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Kenneth Parent officiating. Following the services she will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Pallbearers will be Charles Acord, Charley Acord, Stephen Robosky, Shaun Garten, Bill Pressley and Coy Willis. on June 22, 2012.3
