Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 25 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Griffin; five sisters; four brothers; and two grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Millie G. Craig of Kernersville and Linda G. Carlyle of Rural Hall; a son, Richard Griffin, and wife, Montine, of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Richard Carper and wife, Hazel, of Virginia and Bill Carper of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, at Woodland Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Carlyle officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, June 1, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Hospice for their loving care and support. on June 1, 2006.4

     Helen Sue McAlexander was buried at St. Matthew Cemetery, 910 Dobbins Hollow Road, Riner, Montgomery Co., Virginia.2,5 She was born on December 15, 1952 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.1,6,5 She married Calvin Lee Hawley Sr., son of Ralph Gordon Hawley and Iva Merle Vest, on April 21, 1972 at Pilot, Montgomery Co., Virginia.1,3,2 As of April 21, 1972,her married name was Hawley. Helen Sue McAlexander died on November 17, 2017 at Virginia at age 64.2,5 She Helen Sue McAlexander Hawley, 64 of Pilot, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017. She is preceded in death by her son, Calvin "Cully" Lee Hawley Jr; brothers-in-laws, Wayne Hawley and James Bower; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Merle and Ralph Hawley. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and the "best" grandma. She served alongside her husband as the church mother always giving of herself. She enjoyed cooking and working in her flowers. No words can express what she meant to those who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Calvin Lee Hawley; son, John Hawley and wife Heather; parents, Archie and Lena McAlexander; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lane and Pam McAlexander, Billy and Lisha McAlexander, Steve and Wanda McAlexander; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Terry Epperly, Dee and Eddie Shumate; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Nancy Hawley, Gerald and Hazel Link, Melba Bower, Polly and Milo Simmons; grandchildren, Trinity, Serenity, John, Harmony and Zachary Hawley; numerous aunts, uncles, cousin, nieces, and nephews. Interment in the Saint Matthew Cemetery. on November 19, 2017.2
