Survivors include two sons, Robert H. of Belle and Joe R. of Security, Colo; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Janis) Johnson of Crab Orchard, Mrs. E. B. (Marie) Dunkley of Elon College, N.C., and Mrs. Ted (Jean) Chaffin of Beckley; a brother, Goff Willis of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Mrs. J. B. (Mary) Wilson and Mrs. O. W. (Lena) Farley, both of Crab Orchard; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel after 5 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be A. G. Wilcox, Leonard Edwards, Clyde Fitzpatrick, Tracy Riffe, Bill Chafin, Gilmer Hughes, Basil Wilcox and Roland Brewster. on November 20, 1973.⁴

Survivors include 10 daughters, Mrs. Luther Acord (Nadine), Tampa, Fla; Mrs. Buel (Kathleen) Woody, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Donald (Annette) Smith, Centerville, Ohio; Mrs. Carl (Clara) Porter, Parkersburg; Mrs. Gilbert (Carole Sue) Dean and Mrs. Bob (Betty) Bolen, both of Detroit, Mich; Mrs. Gary (Rose Mary) O'Dell and Mrs. Wayne (Brenda) Farley, both of Beckley and Mrs. Kenneth (Ilene) Boyd and Mrs. Bill (Sharon) Jones, both of Roanoke, Va; five sons, James Albert Jr., Bel Air, Md; Chester R., MacArthur; Dean W., Baltimore, Md. and Joe I. and Jackie D., both of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Mary) Wilson, Mrs. Arch (Ester) Allen and Mrs. Oscar (Lena) Farley, all of Crab Orchard; a brother, Goff, Crab Orchard; 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and always looked forward to the yearly reunion when she would see her sisters, brothers, and their families. She had a great love of all animals and bird-watching. She had a very special cat that she took in named Miss Kitty who will miss her very much. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband Luther D Acord, one sister, Clara Porter, and three brothers, James Willis, Jr., Chester Willis, and Jackie Willis. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Debra Pinson and husband James, of Carrollton, TX, and two grandsons, JJ Kent of West Palm Beach, FL, and Chris Pinson of Carrollton, TX. Also included are two brothers and eight sisters. Brothers are Dean Willis and wife Shirley of Middle River, MD, and Joe Willis of Vandalia, OH. Sisters are Kathleen Woodie of Vandalia, OH, Annette Smith of Waynesville, OH, Carol Sue Dean and husband Gilbert of Livonia, MI, Betty Bolen and husband Bob of Crab Orchard, WV, Rosemary O'Dell and husband Gary of Beckley, WV, Brenda Farley and husband Wayne of Shady Spring, WV, Ilene Boyd of Roanoke, VA, and Sharon Jones and husband Bill of Elizabeth City, NC, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family of Nadine wishes to thank many special people at Heritage Gardens Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the care shown to her. Also, thank you to the kind and caring staff in the CCU at Plano Presbyterian Hospital in her last hours. Most of all, we thank our loving family and friends for all of their prayers, support, and overwhelming kindness in our time of need and sorrow. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Esther Willis Allen at home: two sons, Robert H. of Belle and M. Sgt. Joe R. Allen of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo; three daughters, Mrs. E. B. (Marie) Dunkley of Burlington, N.C., Mrs. Robert (Janice) Johnson of Crab Orchard and Mrs. Ted (Jean) Chaffin of Beckley; one brother, Robert L. of Beckley; four sisters, Mrs. Fannie Walker of Stanaford, Mrs. Lidia Fink, Miss Cora Allen and Miss Betsy Allen all of MacArthur; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home after 3 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Mrs. Chaffin was a retired employee of Montgomery Ward after more than 30 years of service, last working as a supervisor. She was a member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church. She lived most of her adult life in Beckley. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Glenn Allen, and a brother, Joe Ray Allen; and a sister, Janice Johnson. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Ted E. Chaffin; a daughter, Kathryn Zankowitz and husband, Joe, of Beckley; a granddaughter, Amy Marie Zankowitz; a brother, Robert Allen of Belle; a sister, Marie Wills of Elon, N.C; and her dog, "Sammy." Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Crab Orchard Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service Monday at the church. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family at roseandquesenberry@charterinternet.com.
