Born November 17, 1924 at Pike County, Ky., he was the son of the late Ellis B. and Myrtle Ellen King Sizemore. Mr. Sizemore was a resident of Bluefield for the past 50 years. Bill was the retired owner and operator of Bluefield Retreading and Vulcanizing Company Inc. of Bluefield, W.Va. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Brushfork United Methodist Church. Mr. Sizemore was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran for six years, having served on the U.S.S. LST 267 The Phantom Ship. While on the LST 267, Bill was included in three major battles, being the Saipan Invasion D-Day, June 15, 1944, Peleliu Invasion D-Day, September 15, 1944, and the Okinawa Invasion D-Day, April 1, 1945, earning the LST 267 crew five battle stars for World War II service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Betty Horton Sizemore of Bluefield, W.Va; three sons, Bruce Sizemore and wife Mary Ann of Tazewell, Va., Brent Sizemore of Richmond, Va., William "Bill" Sizemore, Jr. and wife Lisa of Richmond, Va; four brothers, Ellis Sizemore and wife Etta Mae of Charleston, W.Va., Charles Sizemore and wife Juanita of Bluefield, W.Va., Clarence Sizemore of Richmond, Va., Roy Sizemore of Richmond, Va; three sisters, Evelyn Thompson of Virginia Beach, Va., Dorothy Booth of Richmond, Va., Mary Jane Jones of Richmond, Va; six grandchildren, Leslie Sizemore of Charlotte, N.C., Wendy Taylor and husband Scott of Knoxville, Tenn., Todd Sizemore of the U.S. Marines Camp Lejune, Amanda Sizemore of Richmond, Va., Taylor Ann Sizemore of Richmond, Va., and Robin Elizabeth Sizemore of Richmond, Va; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Aaron Taylor of Knoxville, Tenn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, W.Va. with the Reverend Chris Arveson and the Reverend D. Homer Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell, W.Va., where the WV Honor Guard and Mercer County Veterans Council will conduct full military graveside rites. Friends may call Monday, May 24, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Contributions may be sent to the Brushfork United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association. on May 24, 2010.5

Sizemore Jr., and brothers, George, Jimmy and Neill Shai. She is survived by her children, Linda Edwards of Kanawha City, John (Vicky) Sizemore of Charleston, Robert (Susie) Sizemore of Fraziers Bottom and Deborah Sizemore of Kanawha City, and grandchildren, Jonathan and Jaclyn Edwards, Jennifer and Eric Thacker and Chelsey, Dominic and Dakota Sizemore. Funeral service will be held at noon Friday, July 11, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Julie Halstead officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Charleston.
