He was born Dec. 19, 1927, at home in Edwardsburg to Leroy and Mary Hazel (Cook) Bishop. He married Carol Marie Zimmer on Aug. 14, 1947, in Edwardsburg. She preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2005. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Jonathan Roberts; one great-granddaughter, Chole Knepp; one sister, Edna Gailhouse; and two brothers, Arthur and Stanley Bishop. Herman retired as a millwright from Miles Laboratories in Elkhart. He was a farmer his entire life and built his own barn and home. Herman served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a member of Edwardsburg American Legion. He was a former member of Cass County Sheriff's Posse, a member of NRA and a member of EAA Chapter 132, Elkhart. His hobbies included animals (especially dogs and cats), antiques, genealogy, history, traveling and sitting on the porch drinking coffee and enjoying home-cooked meals. He had a passion for hot air balloons and flying. Herman was baptized in September 2007 at Granger Community Church. Herman will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by three daughters, Dawn (Bob) Nyerges of Edwardsburg, Penny (Mark) Werner of Edwardsburg and Myra; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth Bishop Sr. of Edwardsburg. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 6 p.m. today, Dec. 9, 2012, in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway Street, Cassopolis. Family and friends will gather again from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, service at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Reese, pastor of Hope United Methodist Church, Edwardsburg, officiating. Herman will be accorded Military Honors by active members of the U.S. Army prior to being laid to rest beside his late wife in Adamsville Cemetery, Adamsville. The family prefers memorial contributions to Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave., NE Grand Rapids, MI 49505, or Cass County Humane Society, 323 M-62, Cassopolis, MI 49031. on December 9, 2012.2

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. (Mich. time) Thursday at Connelly Funeral Home, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, where services will be at 11 a.m. (Mich. time) Friday. Pastor Jeff Reese of Hope United Methodist Church, Edwardsburg, will officiate. Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Genealogy Society of Elkhart, as well as a former 4-H leader, and former Campfire Girls leader. She was a graduate of Southwestern Michigan College School of Nursing, was a homemaker, and was also an LPN who did private nursing. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the Cass County Medical Care Facility. on October 6, 2005.3
