Born June 19, 1919, at LeContes Mills, Clearfield County, he was a son of Thomas and Viola Smith. Mr. Smith was a coal miner for 42 years. He loved hunting, fishing, bowling, riding horses, snowmoiling and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia Smith; a daughter, Helen L. Ferguson and her husband, James; five sons, Eugene H. Smith and his wife, Charlotte, of LeContes Mills, Robert G. Smith and his wife, Laura, of Indiana, William J. Smith and his wife, Donna, of Chambersville, Donald L. Smith and his wife Vicki, of Homer City; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grand-children; three great-great-grand-children; three sisters, Cleo Stiver of Hanover, June Winning of Nanty Glo and Jane McGeary of Seattle, Wash; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clifford, Richard, Clair, Robert and Thomas Smith; and one sister, Frances Rougeux.
