He and his family moved to Roanoke in 1950, and he worked for the Norfolk & Western Railroad for 31 years until his retirement in 1981. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Yates Howlett in January, 1985. Mr. Howlett is survived by one son, Robert Howlett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Lawrence Lester, Ann and Dick Eggleston, all of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a special family member, nephew and wife, Earl and Mamie Vest, Check; a sister, Mable Hill, Radford; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Oshiar and Elizabeth Howlett, Radford, Harless and Mitch Howlett, Martinsville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Irvin and Virginia Yates, Christiansburg; also a number of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Stephanie Richards for her love and care. Funeral services will be conducted by his grandson, Rev. Mark Page of Columbus, Ohio, at Oakey's South Chapel 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 1995. Interment will be in the Wilkinson Cemetery, Hillsville, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel Wednesday, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on January 25, 1995.3

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Effie Massey; one daughter, Mrs. Rosalie McKinney of Phoenix, Ariz; one stepson, William M. Kelley of Charleston; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Overdick and Mrs. Lula Sullivan, both of South Malden; two brothers, Henry of Crown Hill and Earl of East Bank; and five grandchildren. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in East Bank Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. William Buker and Rev. Bryce W. Griffith will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery at Cedar Grove. The body will be taken from Pryor mortuary at East Bank to the residence at 3 p.m. today and to the church one hour before the service. His nephews will be pallbearers. on April 8, 1956.3

Service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Glasgow Methodist Church with Rev. Homer Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. The body is at Cook mortuary at Cedar Grove, will the taken to the home at 5 p.m. today and to the church an hour before the service. on March 4, 1955.3
