It was there that she met her high school sweetheart, Bill, and they began their life-long journey together, culminating in a marriage of 65 years. Bill and Betty were married on November 17, 1950, just prior to Bill's departure for active duty in Korea. Upon Bill's return, the couple moved to Coral Gables, Fla., where Betty held numerous positions at Coral Gables Saving and Loan in support of Bill's attendance at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After graduation, the couple moved to Richmond, Va., where Betty became the assistant to the Head of School at James River Academy. In 1973, Betty finally found her true home and second family at Collegiate School, where she was assistant to the Head of School for the next 22 years. Serving both Malcolm U. Pitt Jr. and F. Robertson Hershey, students, faculty, patrons, and visitors were always greeted by Betty's warm smile. Betty was passionate for everything "green and gold," especially as she and Bill cheered their son and grandsons on the athletic field. They never missed a game. Betty and Bill were fortunate to spend a long and happy retirement in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, creating many fond memories for all their family and friends.
