She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Henry Johnson, and her second husband, Nathan E. White, Sr; three brothers, Gifford, Fred H. and Hubert M. Conner; and two sisters, Leona Simpson and Enola DeWeese. Survivors: sons, William Johnson of Sun City, Ariz., and Jack Johnson of Athens; stepson, Nathan E. White, Jr., and wife Lucille of Princeton; step daughters, Sarah Young and husband Gale of Bluefield, and Betty Jo Lambert, and husband Walter, Jr. of Richmond, Va; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Letha Martin and Lou Reynolds, both of Bluefield, Sylvia Smith of Mullens; and brother, Burman Conner of Bluefield. Graveside services will be held Monday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m., from the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery on the New Hope Road in Princeton with the Rev. Gary Lyons officiating. on November 8, 1998.4

Smith; three sisters, Leona Simpson, Loena White, and Enola Deweese; three brothers, Fred Conner, Gifford Conner, and Hubert Conner; and a special nephew, Mike Deweese. Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Bob Smith Jr. and his wife, Rhea of Inverness, Fla; two sisters, Letha C. Martin and Lou C. Reynolds; one brother, A. Burman Conner of Bluefield; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Gerald Roberts and the Rev. Born Feb. 1, 1920, at Princeton, Burman was the last survivor of 10 children of the late Fred H. Conner and Mary P. Bailey Conner. Burman lived with his parents on the Old Athens Road until their death in 1965 and then with his brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Wilma Conner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Leona Conner Simpson, Gifford Conner, Enola Conner Deweese, Loena Conner White, Sylvia Conner Smith, Letha Conner Martin, Lou Conner Reynolds, Hubert Conner and Fred H. Conner Jr. Burman is survived by his sister-in-law, Wilma Conner; and nephews and nieces, Donald J. Simpson (Sue), William "Bill" Johnson, Bonnie Andrews (R.T.), Richard Ross, Gary Conner (Carolyn), Kevin Conner (Diane), and Jeff Conner. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 in the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road with Pastor Jim Kestner officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to charity of your choice. Interment took place in Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton, WV. Born October 18, 1920, in Scarbro, she was the daughter of the late Oather C. Keatley and Ethel D. Pennington. Being the oldest in her family, she "mothered" five brothers who affectionately called her "Em." Mrs. Conner graduated from Princeton High School in 1938 prior to joining the Women's Army Corps in 1942. She served in Washington, D.C., gathering information on the weather conditions in Japan. She and Hubert Conner were married while both were on leave in 1943. She was honorably discharged in 1945 and graduated from Little French Beauty School in 1946. After 1949, she devoted her life to her family and church, Melrose Presbyterian. She always enjoyed serving her friends and neighbors with her beautician skills. Visitors were always welcomed with, "Can I get you something to eat?" In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Conner, and three brothers, Bill Keatley, Lawrence "Buck" Keatley and Charles Keatley. Survivors include her children, Gary Conner (Carolyn) of Winfield and Kevin Conner (Diane) of Vinton, Va; two brothers, Bob Keatley of Norristown, Pa., and Tom Keatley of Princeton; six grandchildren, Joe Ross, Danielle, Jordan, Ian, Matt Conner and Brenna Conner Mitchell; and four great-grandbabies. Special thanks to caregivers, Idena Mitchell and Robin Rumberg (daughter-in-law). Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 17, at Melrose Presbyterian Church, Eads Mill Road, Princeton, with Pastor Tracy French officiating. Born in Bozoo, he was a son of the late Walter Nelson and Annie Cortty Nelson. He had been a mechanic for the Northfork Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Bluefield for 43 years. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a past member of the church’s usher board. He was past president of the church’s Men’s Bible Class and was a member of the Methodist Men of the church. He also was a member of Mercer Masonic Lodge 160, the Royal Arch Masons and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Letha Conner Martin; one son, James C. Martin Jr., of Bluefield; two brothers, A. P. Martin of Mullens and J. I. Martin of Virginia Beach, Va; one sister, Nellie McClure of Norfolk, Va; and one grandchild. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Knights of Templar. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. on December 24, 1972.4
