He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Walter H. and Marguerite (Dawson) Reed, and had lived in Simsbury prior to moving to Avon 17 years ago. He was a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology where he received his Degree in Architecture, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and World War II having served in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters. He taught Architecture at the University of Colorado from 1950 to 1951, and moved to the Hartford area and was City Architect for Hartford from 1971 to 1978, and was a registered architect in Connecticut and Massachusetts. From 1978 until 1985 he was employed by a large international architectural and engineering firm in the Middle East, and worked in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. After returning to this area in 1985, he was employed by Russell, Gibson and von Dohlen, Inc., Farmington, and retired from there as Director of Architecture in 1991. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Walter Hosea Reed of Ludlow, Vt., and Brian Edward Reed of Milford, N.H; a daughter, Nancy Reed Hansen of Cape Coral, Fla; two brothers, John H. Reed of Escondido, Calif., and Robert A. Reed of Janesville, Wisc., and six grandchildren, Chelsea, and Charity Clark, and Keegan Reed, all of Vermont, Robert Lugaresi of New Hampshire, and Jennifer, and Adam Hansen of Florida. Private graveside funeral service and burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Avon.2 He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Avon, Hartford Co., Connecticut.3,2 He married Barbara R. He married Lea Alva Ragsdale on June 22, 1946, in Smith Center, Kan. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2004. He worked as a photographer for Channel 5 for 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion in Hastings, Ham Radio Club, Skylarks (Model Airplane Club in Hastings), G.I. Modelers, and was a past member of the V.F.W. Glen was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Memorials may be given to the American Red Cross. on December 2, 2010.1
