He was born on July 17, 1940, at War, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Poff; his stepfather, Keister S. Smith; his brother, William B. Poff; and his wife of 45 years, Lois Ann Stafford Poff. He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years, was a Vietnam War Veteran, and worked 21 years for Civil Service. He attended several local churches. He sorely missed his beloved wife, Lois, and was ready to go home to Heaven and join her. He was a loving husband, devoted father and Honored Veteran. He is survived by a son, Richard Lee (Ricky) Poff, of Oklahoma City, Okla; his mother, Ruth P. Smith, of Peterstown, W.Va; and two brothers, John M. Poff, of Charlotte, N.C., and Steven K. Smith, of Irmo, S.C. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate with the Rev. Leslie Shelton officiating. Military Graveside Rites at Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg by Narrows VFW Post #6000, Narrows American Legion Post #68 and Pembroke American Legion Post #311. The visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. on January 25, 2010.2

She had endured a hard fought battle with double pneumonia, destructive bacteria in the intestine, diabetes complications, neuropathy, and complications with her tracheostomy she received 30 years ago at the time she had cancer of the vocal cords. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynwood C. Hale; her younger daughter, Dreamer Lynn Hale; her brother, Kenneth Lee Blount, and a multitude of beloved pets. She was born in Jeter's Chapel, in Bedford County, June 9, 1922, the daughter of Thelma Harris Blount and Jesse Blount. Always an optimist and one who never believed in giving up, she survived many years with numerous disabilities and never let them affect her effervescent love of life. All who met her were impressed with her positive attitude and quick wit. She was a wife who appreciated and loved her husband even though her last 21 years were without him. Her life was focused on him and their daughters. A superb cook, a lover of books, one who knitted, raised African violets, she was never a victim of boredom. After sending her daughters away to college, she earned a nursing degree at Roanoke Memorial. Throughout her life, she took in and cared for numerous homeless dogs and cats. She strongly believed in appropriate and humane treatment of all animals and contributed generously to animal organizations and to individuals who needed help in caring for their pets. She is survived by her older daughter, Marjorie Dawn Hale; her brother, Daniel Lyn Blount; son-in-law, Peter J. Egan; beloved friend, Myrtle B. Jamison; her dog, Mugli; and her cats, Smudge, Aryana, Sweetie, and Bumble Bee. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 982-2111. on February 26, 2009.3

He was born in Carroll County on July 15, 1927 to the late Jesse and Alva Stanley Harrell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by a son, Keith Samuel Harrell; an uncle and aunt, Dorsie and Clara Stanley Harrell, and a sister, Norma Cassell. He was a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, and had been a farmer. Mr. Harrell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet Poff Harrell of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Ronnie Thomas of Meadows of Dan, Susan and Mike Hill of Stuart, Sharon and David Kimble of Laurel Fork, and Terri Anne and Jeff Hylton of Lawsonville, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, Lester Gorman and Anita Harrell of Patrick Springs; ten grandchildren, Amy Harrell, Heidi Foster and husband, Chad, Kristina Delp and husband, David, Jennifer Johnson and husband, Billy, Heather Hill, Seth Harrell, Bremen Harrell, Amber Harrell, Lillian Harrell and Carl Hylton; four great-grandchildren, Trey Delp, Kayleigh Johnson, William Delp and MaKinleigh Johnson; six brothers and sisters, Armand Harrell and wife, Ruby of Ridgeway, Evelie Agee of Meadows of Dan, Reva Sue Lucas and husband, Charles, of Galax, Velda Agee and husband Coan of Keysville, Mahlon Harrell and wife, Carol Ann, of Meadows of Dan, and Bill Harrell and wife, Jerri, of Martinsville; one brother-in-law, Donnie Cassell of Meadows of Dan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
