     John Everett Reed was born on March 31, 1930 at Wabash, Wabash Co., Indiana.2 He married Marlene Marie Bouse in 1955.2,7 John Everett Reed married Lucy Elizabeth Duarte on August 31, 2002 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.2,8 John Everett Reed died on December 5, 2012 at Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 82.2,3 He John Everett Reed, 82, of Salem, passed away early on Wednesday December 5, 2012. He was born in Wabash, Ind., on March 31, 1930, the son of the late Maurice and Jennie Reed. John grew up on a farm, where he learned to rise early and work hard. He served in the United States Army at Fort Knox. He married Marlene Bouse in 1955, graduated from Purdue University, and began work as a high school science teacher. For two years, he and Marlene taught agriculture and home economics in Kisumu, Kenya. He worked in management and sales for Allis-Chalmers for 20 years in Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Virginia. His family moved to Roanoke in 1977, and owned and operated Curry Copy Center in downtown Roanoke until his retirement in 1997. John was a very talented and creative craftsman, with a special gift for making beautiful and practical art including stained glass, wrought iron, and woodwork. No one he met remained a stranger for long. He was an active volunteer for churches and charities, where he gave freely of his time and talents. He was a true original. John was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Marlene; and his sister, Ruth Long. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of the last 10 years, Lucy Phillips Reed; son, Greg Reed and daughter- in-law, Beth and their sons, Joseph, Kaleb, and Chance; daughter, Teresa and son-in-law, Tim Parry, and their children, Bess, Brooke, and Jacob; and great-grandsons, Ryder and John; daughter, Judi and son-in-law, Paul Anderson, and their sons, Drew, Tyler and Blake; sisters, Mary Lou Kendall, Helen Dawes, Dorothy Brouhard, and Nancy Meyer; brother, Max Reed; and countless other family members and friends. on December 6, 2012.2

Bob was a 4-H leader, and his memberships also include LaFontaine Masonic Lodge, Military Order of Purple Heart, and Veteran Battle of the Bulge. Bob is survived by three sons, Robert Joseph "Joe" Sirk (Alys) of Angola, Indiana, Jim Sirk (Betty) of Marion, Indiana, and Flava Sirk (Leah) of Sweetser, Indiana; one daughter, Sue (David) Landaw of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Scott Sirk of Fishers, Indiana, Joel Keefer of Bloomington, Tony Sirk of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ryan Sirk of Marion, Indiana, Joseph Sirk of Cleveland, Ohio, Kristen Sirk of New York City, New York, and Kaitlyn Sallee of Indianapolis, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Kate, Scotty, Mike, Jake, and Chloe Sirk, and Frank and Bret Keefer. Bob was preceded in death by brothers, Jim Sirk and infant, Joseph Reed Sirk and a grandson, Timothy H. Sirk. He was a certified public accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of both the N.C. and S.C. Association of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the American Business Club, having served as a past president and served on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association, where he was treasurer for 29 years. He was a Mason and member of Spartan Lodge No. 70 AFM, Grand Lodge of South Carolina, A&ASR SJ, York Rite Bodies, Grand York Rite Bodies, Hejaz Shrine Temple, and various research lodges. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Spartanburg, where he was church treasurer for five years, former teacher of eighthgraders, and president of the Men's Bible Class. Survivors include his wife, Marian Davis Boyd Reed; two daughters, Dr. Carolyn Felder Reed Smith of Plymouth, N.C., and Elizabeth Davis Reed Lamb of Atlanta; one brother, Emerson Reed of Fort Wayne, Ind; and six grandchildren. A Masonic service will be held at 4 p.m., with visitation following at 6 tonight at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Willie Teague and Sam Poston. Burial, with military rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. on January 7, 1997.3

He is survived by sons, Randy Wayne (Becky) Crist of Macclenny, Fla. and Kenneth Eugene Crist of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Glen Richard (Loretta) Crist of Fort Wayne; sisters, Martha Elizabeth "Betty" Walker of Markle and Alberta May (Robert) Brooks of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Rose Crist of Fort Wayne; and sister-in-law, Midge Crist of Fort Wayne. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Clouse) Crist, in 1993; son, Terry Lee, in 2005; grandchild, Kenny; and brother, Cecil. Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at D.O.
