     Donald Franklin Terry Donald Franklin Terry, age 90, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington CH. He was born on January 23, 1935 in Raleigh County, West Virginia to the late Dewey and Thelma (Webb) Terry. He was a 1952 graduate of Trap Hill High School in West Virginia. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army. After receiving his honorable discharge, he started work at White-Westinghouse in Columbus, from which he retired, and later worked in concrete and construction. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family, and he was a fan of Elvis Presley and the West Virginia Mountaineers. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his siblings, Jimmy Terry, Bobby Terry, Louise Farmer, Jessie Cochran, Mabel Showalter, Willa Mae Kimball, and Bill Terry; and his best friend, Frankie Verderano. Survivors include his longtime partner of forty-three years, Cathy Forsha; children, Sonya (Vonnie) Downey, Sheila (Robin) Armentrout, and Stephen (Caitlin) Forsha; grandchildren, Annie (Stephen) Kendall, Derek (Rubie) Hottinger, and Breanna Hottinger and her fiancé, Gary Daugherty; great-grandchildren, Roland, Alexandria, Landon, Aayden, Logan, Leilah, Evan, Branden, and Jeremiah; and siblings, Bessie Bass, Harold (Sue) Terry, Ronnie (Jane) Terry, and Gregory (Sandy) Terry. Ocie was preceded in death by her parents, James Willis Smith and Sarah Terry Smith; husband, Dalton Dennis Sloan; her eldest son, Kenneth Dalton Sloan; and many siblings, Lollie Jones, Leonard Smith, Edna Scott, Lessie Peters, Bessie Peters, Artis Smith, Raymond Smith, Donald Smith, Leo Smith Sigmon and a set of twins that died shortly after birth. She is survived by a sister, Viola S. Sigmon Poindexter; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Lee Sloan (Joyce), and Cleo Ray Sloan (Regina) and a special daughter-in-law, Phyllis Ann Grodensky; ten grandchildren, Kenneth Dalton Sloan Jr., Kimberly Sloan Snider, Shelley Sloan Mounce, Dennis Lee Sloan Jr., Cleo Ray Sloan Jr., Susanne Sloan, Melissa Stanley Frith, Tina Holt, Brandi Keatts, Jason Grodensky and eleven great-grandchildren. Ocie retired from Bassett Superior Lines Furniture Company at the age of 67. In her younger years she was a homemaker and enjoyed farming, gardening and babysitting. She was a very hard worker who loved her family, especially the joys of her life, her grandchildren, and she was most often referred to as "Granny Crack" by all of them. She was well known for cracking jokes and making people laugh and she always attributed her long life to the "love of drinking milk" every day. Ocie resided at Fork Mountain Rest Home (FMRH) the last four years of her life. A special thank you to Carilion Clinic Hospice nursing staff and physicians, and FMRH staff. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. on May 4, 2012.3

He was the son of the late Gus and Lottie Terry and was a life long resident of Midway. Jesse was a retired employee at Affinity, Eastern Associated Coal as a tipple operator. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Irene Pike Terry; daughter Helen; 2 brothers Clayton and Ernest; son-in-law Earl Richards; 2 brothers-in-law Ray Taylor and Rush Reed. Jesse is survived by his daughter Margie Richards of Crab Orchard; grandson Robert Richards and his wife Evonne of Grandview; great-granddaughter Nicole Blankenship and her husband Nick of Midway; 4 great-great-grandsons Kaiden, Waylon, Brentley, and Maddox of Midway; sisters Laura Reed of Columbia, SC and Elva Taylor of Midway; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. Jesse was a veteran of WWII where he saw action in Naples. He was a member of the 36th Infantry Division where he and the rest of the Division took a walking tour of Europe ending up in Germany. He returned home on December 19, 1945 during a major snow storm. He was also one of the oldest members of the Midway Church of God. He loved to spend his time hunting and most importantly fishing with his wife. The funeral services, were held in the home of his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pittman, near Sophia, Brother J. P. Thompson conducted the funeral services. Following the service, the body was laid to rest in the Canaday cemetery yo await the resurrection. He said he had considered everything and that he had decided that he did not want to get well, that he wanted Jesus to take him for he was prepared to go and wanted to meet Him in Heaven. He leaves to mourn his death: father, mother, one brother and six sisters, and a host of friends and relatives. on October 12, 1926.4

Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. on December 23, 1999.2
