Bonnie Charlene Boothe, of Roanoke, was taken home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday following a three year battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved son, Dr. Steven Paul Key; grandson, Christian Steven Key, both of Moss Beach, California; mother, Beulah Pauline Saville of Salem; half sister, Sheree Parker and niece Jessica Parker of Charlotte, North Carolina; half brother, Tracy Saville; sister-in-law Joyce Saville, niece, Alicia Saville, nephew, Christopher Saville of Gastonia, North Carolina; and estranged husband, William Lewis Boothe of Roanoke. Bonnie sought not monetary gain but bathed in the richness of faithful friends and companions. As her healthy vessel began to fail, her senior citizens group and the Fidelis Sunday School Class at Tabernacle Baptist Church remained faithful til the end. Her three "special girlfriends", Mabel Beamer, Ruth Mullins, and Charlotte Otey helped her keep her faith that God was always near. In addition to seeing to her personal needs, her faithful companions Ike Jarells and Larry Bobbitt assumed her volunteer efforts when she became too weak to perform God's work. Bonnie is remembered for her more than 30 years of community service in the Roanoke Valley where she is recognized as a "Hometown Hero". Her many years of service involved feeding and clothing the needy and opening the doors of her personal residence to those in need of shelter. Her exemplary spirit of generosity and kindness was exceeded only by her uncompromising faith in her loving God. From our arms to His, your broken vessel renewed, you have become one of the angels you always admired. "Well done my faithful servant, well done". In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Turning Points Shelter, C/O The Salvation Army, 724 Dale Avenue Roanoke, Virginia 24013.
