     John Amos was buried at Dumbauld Cemetery, Crawford Co., Kansas.5,6 He was born on November 20, 1840 at Shelby Co., Indiana.5,6 He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Hamilton, daughter of Hugh Hamilton and Margaret Ann Conner, on January 12, 1864 at Shelby Co., Indiana.1,4 John Amos died on January 8, 1914 at Neosho Co., Kansas, at age 73.5,6 He John Amos was born in Shelby County Indiana, November 20th 1840 and died in Neosho County, Kansas January 8th 1914 being at the time of his death 73 years, one; month and 17 days. He was married to Elizabeth Hamilton in 1863 and to this union were born six children, three of whom are living; James Amos of Neosho County, Mrs. Mary Snider of Lawton, Okla. and Mrs. Margaret Snider of Marlow, Okla. He removed with his family from Indiana to Crawford Co. Kansas in 1872. April 28, 1882 his wife died leaving him the care of three young children. In 1884 he was married to Mrs Bell Elam, to this union was born five children of whom four are living, Liberty Amos at whoe home he died, Mrs. Cora Newman of Eldorado Kansas and Everett and Florence Amos who were with him at the time of his death. He removed from Crawford to Neosho county in 1892 and resided there until the time of his death. In 1898 his wife died. He was a lifelong and consistent member of the Methodist Protestant Church. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jones, assisted by Rev. Buckner from the Union M P Church Friday morning at 11 o'clock and the remains were laid to rest in the Dumbauld cemetery. A large number of friends gathered for the funeral services to payHheir last respects to the departed citizen. on January 16, 1914.6

Amos married Ada Dunaway on March 8, 1942 at McCune, Crawford Co., Kansas.9,6 James H. Amos died on January 21, 1950 at Crawford Co., Kansas, at age 85.9,6 He James H. Amos, 85, died at 11:10 a.m. today at his farm home 4 1/2 miles northwest of Strauss. He had been in failing health six months and suffered a paralytic stroke Christmas eve. His condition had been critical since that time. He was born at Shelbyville, Ind, on Oct. 25, 1864 and at the age of 10 came to Kansas with his parents, who settled in the Lakeview vicinity north of Strauss. He had lived on the same farm since 1902. His first marriage was to Sarah Clary of McCune on July 10, 1887. She died July 17, 1937. On March 1942 he was married at Mcune to Mrs. Ada Dunaway of Fort Smith, Ark. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Eulalia Zimmerman of McCune; five sons, Orville and Ernest, both of Erie, Ray of Parsons, Cecil of Shreveport, La., and Ralph of Melvern, Ark; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lola Stroud of FL Smith, Ark, and Mrs. Mildred Hargrove of Chanute; one step-son, Floyd Dunsway of Ft. Smith; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Snider, Wewoka, Ok; two half-sisters, Mrs. Florence Bond, Nempa, Ida, and Mrs. Clara Newman of Butterfield, Mo; one half-brother, Bert Amos, McCune; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the United Chnpel Methodist church, north of McCune, and a member of McCune lodge No. 237, A. F. & A. M. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the McCune Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. John Groen of Parsons, and the Reverend Taylor of McCune. Burial will be in McCune cemetery. on January 21, 1950.6
