He was born a Maple Meadow, April 25, 1880, the son of Frank and Martha Jane Underwood Terry, both deceased. He was married in 1913 to Ada Mae Lemon, who survives. He had been a resident of Surveyor for the past 28 years, his last employment was with the Virginian Railway. Other survivors include three sons, Teddy, of Harper Heights, Denver, of Surveyor, and Earl, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Cuba Wiley, Edwight, Mrs. Lance Carter, of Baltimore; and six grandchildren; five brothers, Floyd and Freelin, both of Surveyor, Pierce of Tolleytown, Dewey of Eccles, Aaron, of Mt. Hope; and two sisters, Mrs. Zed Castle, and Mrs. Oliver O'Dell, both of Tolleytown. Burial will be made in Trail Cemetery at Surveyor. Active pallbearers will include Ed Covey, Sidney Daniels, Gale Bowling, Raymond Prather, Sam Humphrey, Claude Horton, Robert Brown, and Beecher Clay. on October 3, 1952.7

Born April 9, 1888, he was a son of the late Franklin and Martha Underwood Terry. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. A native of Raleigh County, he had lived at Surveyor for 66 years. He was a graduate of the Romney School for the Blind, where he learned to type, make brooms and play musical instruments. He is survived by three brothers, Aaron of Mount Hope, Freelen of Surveyor, and Dewey of Eccles. Burial will be in the Trail Cemetery in Surveyor. on March 15, 1968.8

A veteran of World War I, Terry was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a retired railroader and had last worked for Virginian Railway, where he was employed 49 years. Terry is survived by his wife, Mrs. Esta Clemens Terry; three daughters, Mrs. Jack Deck of Mabscott and Gloria and Teresa Terry, both at home; five sons, Kendall and Norris, both of Lester, Eugene of Eccles, Tilden of Beckley and Buford, at home; a sister, Mrs. Ida Cassell of Harper Heights; and four brothers, Pierce and Freeland, both of Surveyor, Aaron Terry of Mount Hope and Dewey of Eccles. The body will remain at Melton Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Sam Humphrey, Frank Humphrey, Honmer Hutchison, Houston McGhee, Glen Daniel, Dawson Lucas, Charles Covey and Beecher Clay. on July 3, 1965.4

D. Smith, west of Salem, were conducted from the home by the Rev. J. P. Helms, of Roanoke. Mr. Terry, who had made his home at Viewpoint farm since the death of his wife, 16 years ago, succumbed after an illness of several weeks duration. Interment was made in the family burying ground in Floyd county. Grandsons of the deceased acted as pall bearers. Mr. Terry, who volunteered in the War Between the States in the year 1861, saw active and colorful service during the war. Enlisting in the 57th regiment of the Virginia division, he fought in the second battle of Manassas, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. He narrowly escaped death in battle on several occasions, when comrades fell on every side under the steady advance of the United States army divisions. The deceased is survived by four daughters, two sons, 28 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren. on January 7, 1932.7

He was born in McVey, May 3, 1876. He and his wife had made their home with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Geno Placidi, Sophia, for the past three years. He was a retired school teacher. Survivors include his wife, Marinda Rowe McVey, Sophia; three brothers, Silas J. McVey, Pemberton; Christopher McVey, Logan; and Andrew J. McVey, Riverside, Calif; a son, Earl McVey, Midway; five daughters, Mrs. Geno Placidi, and Miss Betty McVey, Sophia; Mrs. Charles Crews and Mrs. Shirley Testement, Midway; and Mrs. Lance Reid, Winona; 18 grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild. Burial will be in the McVey Cemetery, Sullivan. Pallbearers will be his nephews, James, Richard, Alex, Willard W., Hester, and Remus McVey. on March 13, 1959.4

     Martin Daniel McVey was buried at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.2,5,6 His Social Security Number was 235-10-3960.2 He was born on December 31, 1879 at Pemberton, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.2,3 He married Addie May Terry, daughter of Franklin Pierce "Frank" Terry and Martha Jane Underwood, on January 10, 1903 at Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,2,4 Martin Daniel McVey died on July 8, 1941 at Glen White, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 61.2,6 He Funeral services for Martin D. McVey, 61, of Glen White, who died suddenly at his home last night of a heart attack, will be conducted Friday. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial park. McVey was member of one of Raleigh county's pioneer families, and was the grandson of the late Richard McVey, who surveyed the city of Beckley for General Alfred Beckley. He was born at the old McVey homeplace near Pemberton in 1878 and was a brother of Mrs. J. L. Merrylees, of Beckley. He had been employed for the past 15 years as outside track foreman for the Koppers Coal company in Glen White. Surviving are his widow, Ada McVey, two sons, Everett McVev and Basil McVey, of Glen White one adopted son, Junior Murry of Glen White; and the following brothers, C. W. McVey, Owensboro, Ky; C. C. McVey, Mann; T. O McVey, Hamilton, Ohio; J. J. McVey, A. J. McVey, S. J. McVey, all of Pemberton; one sister, Mrs. J. L. Merrylees, Beckley. on July 9, 1941.6

Burial will be in the McVey Family Cemetery at Sullivan. Pallbearers will be Lee Whittaker, Larry Trump, Benny McVey, Richard McVey, Jr., Jack Lusk and Edsel Bolen. on December 2, 1965.5
