Newby, of Keeling, died yesterday at her home at the age of 85 years. Deceased was one of the oldest residents of this section and was widely known and highly esteemed. She died within a mile of the house where she was born, having lived in the Keeling section her entire life. She was a consistent member of the Mount Tabor Baptist church. Beside her husband, she is survived by one son, Henry W. Newby, and the following grandchildren; Miss Theresa Newby, Keeling; Mrs. Mattle Brooks, Danville; Arthur, Herman, Edward and Jones Newby, all of Keeling. The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home and internment was made in the family
burial grounds there. on April 2, 1930.3

Newby and Estelle Shelton Newby. On May 16, 1932 he married the former Mabel Howerton who survives him. He was a carpenter and farmer before retiring a year ago, and belonged to Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and Kent Lodge of Masons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Phoebe Ray Newby Hoats of Waltenboro, S.C; one brother, Isaac Jones Newby of Keeling; two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Henderson of Keeling and Mrs. Mattie Brooks of Danville; and two grandchildren. The body is at the funeral home and the family is at the residence on Keeling Rt. 1. on March 30, 1972.4

     Herman Bryan Newby was buried at Newby Family Cemetery, Keeling, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.4,5 He was born on December 3, 1906 at Keeling, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.4,5 He Herman Bryan Newby, 56, was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital this morning. He had been an invalid most of his life and confined to bed for four years. Mr. Newby was a life-long resident of the Keeling community, born Dec. 3, 1906. He was a son of the late Henry Newby and Estell Shelton Newby. Surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Alton Newby, Edward Newby, Jones Newby, Mrs. Theresa Henderson, all of Keeling, and Mrs. Mattie Brooks of Danville. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wrenn-Yeatts Chapel. Interment will be in the family cemetery at Keeling. The body will rest at the funeral home prior to the services and the family will be at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mattie Brooks, 231 Halifax St. on August 2, 1962.5 He died on August 2, 1962 at Danville, Virginia, at age 55.4,5
