Survivors include his loving and precious wife of 63 years, Gladys Helmondollar Meadows; a daughter, Connie Bryant and husband, James of Kenova; and a sister, Margaret Levesque of Victoria, Canada. Gene had served on the Blackford County Council, Hartford City Board of Works, and was president of the Parkside PTO. He also was the Blackford County Republican Chairman, the regional president of Jaycees and was a member of Moose Lodge and American Legion Post #159. Survivors include a daughter, Heather (David) Melton, Eaton; a son, Brad Thurston, Nashville, TN; former wife, Sheila Meadows, Hartford City; and three grandsons, Zachary, Logan and Charles Melton. He was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in Hartford City Cemetery with Pastor Chris Neel officiating. There will be no calling hours. The family requests memorials to the Blackford Animal Shelter. Arrangements are being handled by Waters Funeral Home. on May 21, 2012.¹

She was born February 21, 1927, to the late Charlie Helmondollar & Verna Maynard Helmondollar. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bennie Meadows, sisters Edith Stiltner, Mary Magdaline Cook, and Francis Bunn and brothers Wade , Clyde and Wetzel Helmondollar. Surviving is her daughter Connie Bryant of Kenova, WV, brother William Lee “Abe” Helmondollar, five grandchildren, Sharon Gilkerson, Diana Clay, Angela Williamson, Wendy Willis and James Bryant, Jr, and a special niece Maudie Kinser.
