Samuel Kelley Barnard was buried at Evergreen Burial Park, 1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, Virginia.1,3 He married Agnes Peterson.1 Samuel Kelley Barnard was born on May 19, 1914 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1 He died on November 26, 1937 at Glenvar, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 23.1,3 He S K BARNARD IS KILLED IN WRECK, Motocycle Skids During Early Morning Ride. A skidding motorcycle on a curve west of Glenvar broght what appeared to have been instant death to S. Kelley Barnard, 23, of Salem about 1:40 a.m. yesterday. A member of the Salem rescue squad and first vice-president of the Virginia Association of Rescue Squads, Barnard was employed by the Norfolk and Western Railway in the capacity of secretary to Vice-President Sydney F. Small. His home was at 135 Academy Street, Salem. According to Deputy Sheriff J. L. Richardson who investigated, Barnard left Salem to take the motorcycle to the home of Frank Thomas who owned it, while Thomas followed in an automobile. Richardson said Thomas told him that he passed the spot without seeing the overturned machine and when he failed to find Barnard at his home, returned over the route and found the wrecked machine with Barnard still astride it. The motorcycle skidded about 100 feet along the highway. Richardson said the speedometer was locked with the needle pointing at 84 miles an hour, but it was not known whether that was the speed at the time of the crash, or whether the impact threw the needle over. Barnard was a graduate of Salem high school and the National Buiness college. He is survived by his wife and two children, S. K., Jr. and John Francis Barnard, and his parents, Samuel B. Barnard of Bristol, and Mrs. Annie K. Barnard, of Salem. The funeral will be conducted at the home at 2 p.m. Sunday by Rev. J. Maurice Trimmer, pastor of Salem Baptist church, with interment in Evergreen Burial Park. Pallberers will be: Julian Pitman, Earl Driscoll, Frank Thomas, Bruce Robinson, G. G. DeHart and William Sellers. Honorary pallbears: S. F. Small, Thomas King, R. Lee Lynn, Jr., T. Alfred Tweedy, Frank Helvestine, Sr., E. M. Dickerson, O. H. Beasley, H. M. Robertson, George S. Luck, Joseph Driscoll, Hugh Carter, William Nance, Joseph Cahill and members of the Salem Rescue Squad. on November 27, 1937.3
