He was 80. Born to a coal miner, Tivis Henry Graybeal, and his wife, the former Dollie Pittman, in Midway, on September 25, 1934, Graybeal lived most of his life in the Beckley area. A CPA by training, Graybeal worked for a number of coal industry concerns in West Virginia before becoming a partner in Boyce, Graybeal and Sayre - a company that manufactured and installed coal processing plants. At its peak, BGS employed 150 people. Graybeal was active in the community, including positions on the Raleigh County Board of Education and President of the Beckley Chamber of Commerce. A number of young people who grew up in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s will remember Graybeal’s leadership in 4H, church camp and little league. An avid horseman, Graybeal kept more than 35 Quarter horses and was a familiar face at local and state competitions. Adults remember Arnold had a joke for every occasion but was known for a visual trick that made it onto a national television show — pouring a drink from a cold can that he managed to stick to his forehead. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jewell Hartsog Graybeal, and three children, daughter Julie Graybeal Roach of Cornelius, N.C., daughter Laura Graybeal of Beckley, and son Thomas Arnold Graybeal of Beckley. He has five grandchildren. Graybeal is also survived by a brother, Gary Graybeal, of Dallas, Texas and a sister, Betty Pettry, of Daniels, West Virginia. on April 15, 2015.1
