Police have released the name of a man found dead in Roanoke County last week and have ruled out foul play in his death. James Conner, 72, of Roanoke was found dead in a field off Hollins Road about 2:30p.m. Sunday afternoon. Roanoke County police said Conner was lying outside a vehicle that was parked in a field. A real estate agent discovered the body and called police. Roanoke police spokeswoman Shelly Alley said Conner's family reported him missing Jun 8, almost two weeks before he was found dead. Roanoke County Police Lt. Chuck Mason said autopsy results indicated Conner may have been dead for about a week before he was found. Alley said medical examiners have ruled that there was no foul play involved in Conner's death. She and Mason declined to say whether Conner had any known medical problems. on June 25, 2004.19 He James W. Conner, 72, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord. He was an active member of Christian Life International Church in Salem. He was a Deacon and Head Door Greeter. He was a blessing to many, and many souls saved because of his testimony. He was a loving husband, father, and brother and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Ila Conner and his brother, George Conner. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Sue Conner; son, David Samuel Conner; nine sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucy Hibbits of Salem, Eva Mae and Raymond Burton of Florida, Nancy Andrews of Roanoke, Betty Jane Andrews of Roanoke, Mabel Smallwood of Roanoke, Ella May and Ford Mayhew of Thaxton, Mary and J.L. Barbour of North Carolina, Thelma Holland of Roanoke, and Norma Jean and Ronald Thomas of Salem; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Samuel Hofawger of North Carolina, Everlene Altice, Marlene Moore of Rocky Mount, Peggy and Billy Walters of Richmond, Barbara Turner of Boones Mill, Joan Poff of Vinton; and many nieces, nephews and lots of friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Christian Life International Church, Salem with the Rev. David Tuell officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
