Eugene P. Puckett, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Puckett, 611 Central Ave., Salem, formerly reported missing in action over Germany on February 14, was killed on that date over Engers, Germany, according word received by his wife, the former Helen Wimmer, of 112 Forest Hill road, Williamson Road. A B-26 Marauder pilot, he had been awarded the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters for 40 missions with the Ninth Air Force based in France. A graduate of Andrew Lewis high school, he entered service in February, 1943, after attending Georgia Tech. Receiving his commission one year later, he left for overseas service in August, 1944. on August 19, 1945.⁵

     Loretta Jean Ziegler was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.⁶ She Loretta Jean Ziegler Wimmer, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 23, 2007. She was a charter member of Bethany Christian Church and a graduate of William Fleming High School and National Business College. She had the honor of being the first woman sworn into the United States Navy in the commonwealth of Virginia. She served as an officer in the Roanoke squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, an EMT with the Hollins Rescue Squad and a was former member of the Hollins Charter Chapter of the ABWA. Mrs. Wimmer was the last surviving child of L.W. and Jeanette P. Ziegler. Surviving are her children, Carla Jean Marks-Lynch and husband, Kenny of Roanoke, Brian Scott Wimmer and wife, Mary Beth of Boones Mill and Susan Adean Etheridge and husband, Jerry of New Castle; grandchildren, Heather Marks Etheridge and husband, Ernie, Kevin Alexander Davies and wife, Atsuko, Ryan Charles Marks, Sarah Elizabeth Davies, Christopher Scott Wimmer, Megan Lee Lynch, Katherine Anne Wimmer, Dakota Akee Etheridge and Sierra Alee Etheridge; great-grandchild, Cailyn Nina Davies and sisters-in-law, Virginia Ziegler of Roanoke and Betty Ziegler of Richmond.⁴ Her Social Security Number was 224-34-3114.³ She was born on April 20, 1930 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,2,3,7,5 As of March 16, 1957,her married name was Wimmer.¹ She married Carl Clifton Wimmer, son of Claude Alonzo/Alonzie/Alonza Wimmer and Nellie May Mathena, on March 16, 1957 at Roanoke, Virginia.¹ Loretta Jean Ziegler and Carl Clifton Wimmer were divorced on June 13, 1973 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.² Loretta Jean Ziegler died on November 23, 2007 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 77.^3,4,8,7,9

     Alfred Kenneth "Kenny" Lynch Jr. Alfred Kenneth "Kenny" Lynch, 64, of Roanoke, went to play music for the Lord on Thursday, September 21, 2017. His parents, Alfred Kenneth Sr. and Margaret Ruth Lynch, preceded him. Kenny was a man of God, Family and Church. He was a member of Journey Church and blessed to be in the Journey Church Band since its conception. Kenny started playing music at the age of 14, almost any instrument; bass, sax, but mostly lead guitar. He was also a Mentor of other musicians at local schools. When time allowed he loved watching NASCAR, reminiscent of being the Crew Chief for a local racing team in his younger days. All will dearly miss a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Carla Jean Marks; daughters, Megan Lynch of Roanoke, Heather Etheridge and husband Ernie of Roanoke; son, Ryan Marks and wife Sarai of Roanoke; five grandchildren who are the light of his eyes, Skylar Etheridge, Maddox Patram, Taya, Melody and Logan Marks; sisters, Judy Moore of Alexandria, Lori Lynch and husband Wayne Meador; his best friend and brother, Robert "Robby" Lynch of Roanoke.      Ryan Charles Marks Ryan Charles Marks, Dec 7, 1985 - Aug 20, 2025. Ryan Charles Marks, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on August 20, 2025, at the age of 39. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Chrisma Sarai Marks; his daughters, Taya and Melody Marks; and his sons, Maddox Patram and Logan Marks. He also leaves behind his mother, Carla Jean Marks; his father, Dennis Marks; and his sister, Heather Etheridge, along with her husband, Ernie. Ryan worked as a plumber with Ostrom, and his family is grateful for the friendships and support he found there. A lifelong lover of music, Ryan filled his days with song and sound. Those who knew him will always remember the way he could make any moment brighter with music. We find comfort in imagining him now playing alongside his late stepfather, Kenny Lynch, whom he held dear in his heart. Ryan’s life, though far too short, was full of love, laughter, and melody. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.²

"Mantia" Wimmer were divorced.⁴ William Davis Goad was born on September 4, 1880 at Bedford Co., Virginia.^2,3 He married Mantie C. "Mantia" Wimmer, daughter of John Lewis Wimmer and Margaret Ellen "Maggie" Palmer, on July 19, 1910 at Bristol, Sullivan Co., Tennessee.⁵ William Davis Goad died on May 5, 1960 at Baltimore, Maryland, at age 79.¹ He GOAD - On May 5, 1960, William D., of 1609 Leslie road, the beloved father of Mrs. H. G. Keister, of Washington, D.C., and Roy L. Goad, and grandfather of Mrs. P. Carroll Copeland and Diana Goad. Interment in New Morgans Church Cemetery, Moneta, Va. on May 6, 1960.¹

"Mantia" Wimmer, on September 27, 1930 at Washington, D.C..¹ Admiral Dewey Houff died in September, 1943 at Australia at age 44.⁵ He Mrs. Marvin B. Brown, of near Harrisonburg, has received a message from the War department, informing her of the death of her brother, Dewey Houff, who had been stationed in Australia. He had entered the service in September 1942 and prior to that time he had been a salesman for the A. P. Woodson company, WashIngton. Mr. Houff was born at Mt. Crawford May 12, 1899, a son of A. Stuart and Maggie C. Houff. About thirty years ago he moved to Washington and had made his home there until the time of his induction. He had many friends in Washington and in his native section. He is survived by his father, A. Stuart Houff; a sister, Mrs. Marvin B Brown, Harrisonburg, and a brother, George Houff, Washington. on September 30, 1943.⁵
