In 1955, Gladys and Steve were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Gladys worked at Pacific Bell for 34 years as a telephone operator before retiring in 1981. Mother dedicated her life to serving her family, friends and her Savior. A special thanks to the tender, loving care from the staff at Caring Heart Residential Living; along with the compassionate, professional services of all the staff at Nancy Hinds Hospice Home. Preceding her in death were her husband, Steve; mother, Roxie Hopkins; and brothers, Cecil, Floyd and Dale King. Steve and Gladys raised three children who survive them, Elaine Soldani and her husband, Joseph, Gary Medigovich and his wife, Charlotte and Sharon Johnson- Barborka, widow of Ethan. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: grandson, David Soldani and his wife Rachel, and their four sons, Steven, Ryan, Tyler and John; granddaughter, Susan Todd and her husband, Luke, and their three daughters, Rebekah, Sarah and Rachel; grandsons, Michael Soldani, Cory and Brian Medigovich, Jourdan and Zachary Johnson; and granddaughters, Amy Soldani and Tara Medigovich. Additionally, Gladys is survived by two sisters, Opal Duncan and Irene Kinghorn. Viewing will precede the funeral service from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. in the Relief Society Room. A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 220 N. Peach Avenue in Clovis on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. Interment immediately following the service at Clovis Cemetery, Clovis, Ca. Remembrances may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, c/o Bishop Clason, 1447 N. Marilyn Ruth Thompson Marilyn Ruth Searles (Thompson), 92, passed away on June 22, 2020. She was born in Timberlake, SD on May 25, 1928 to Wilbur and Margaret Thompson (Ward). Marilyn was the oldest of 6 children. She grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota living in Timberlake, Hill City, and Custer. She graduated high school in Hill City and attended most of her reunions. Then as a young adult and newlywed, she lived in Rapid City. Marilyn married William R. Searles on June 3, 1950. Within a year or so, they moved to Bremerton, WA to seek work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Marilyn and Bill settled in Sunnyslope where they raised 4 children, Michael, JoEllen (Jodi), Denise (Dee) and Willa Jeanne. Marilyn was very active in the Sunnyslope Community Center and in leading 4-H clubs for sewing and cooking. She was a seamstress in her home sewing and altering for extra money. Marilyn loved reading, handwork, and playing cards – especially Pinochle and Hand and Foot! Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents Wilbur and Margaret Thompson, siblings Sharon, Chuck, Ardy, Frank and Willis and her daughter Willa Jeanne Janes. Tragically just 8 days after passing, Marilyn’s granddaughter, Amber Harden (Johnston) passed suddenly. Erma Irene Grimm Mass of Christian Burial for Erma I. Duree, 86, of Chariton will be Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chariton. Interment will follow at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Woodburn, Iowa. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Sharing of Erma Stories will begin at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are requested to the Legacy Lodge - Circle of Life Hospice. Erma was born June 1, 1928 in Comstock, Nebraska to Everett and Neva Grimm. She worked at the Osceola Hospital as an aide for a few years. She met Leo "Wimpy" Duree when he came home from the Service. They were married May 1, 1946, they were blessed with four children: Loretta, Katherine, Peggy, and Patty. Erma was a mother and homemaker and loved raising her girls. She later worked as a home health aide for a few years. She never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone. She loved communicating, Erma was the one that held friends and family together. Their friends from wintering in Arizona would let her know if anyone was in need of prayers and she would spread the word. She enjoyed writing letters and later became proficient with the computer and Facebook, allowing her to stay in touch with everyone. Erma loved the QVC shopping network. She also loved crafts(anything with glitter or sparkles), oil painting, decoupage, making bracelets, and knitting Christmas socks for the entire family(even the in-laws). Her true joy was her family and of course especially loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She treasured her time with them and hearing about what they were doing. Erma passed away September 25, 2014 at the Lucas County Health Center. Preceding her in death were her parents: Everett and Neva Grimm; her husband, Leo; an infant daughter, Loretta; grandson, Roy Bingham; and great grandson, Blaine Bingham.
Surviving are her daughters: Kathy (Roger) Bingham of Chariton, Peggy (Danny) Crooks of Lucas, and Patty (David) Sponsler of Chariton; 7 grandchildren: Kevin Bingham, Tammy (Steve) Burnworth, Rebecca Bingham, Erich (Jo) Wilson, Jonathan (Amy) Wilson, Matt (Brooke) Crooks, and Chelsea (Jonathan) VanZee; 18 great grandchildren; and siblings: Alma Selsor and Lowell (Clara Mae) Grimm.
