Garrett and wife Barbara of Hanover, Pa., and W. Gerald "Jerry" Garrett and wife Gerri of Milton, W.Va; a son-in-law, William Harry Basnight and a daughter-in-law, Susan L. Garrett all of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great- grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Glad Tidings Church, 301 S. Newtown Rd., Norfolk with Pastor Jerry Qualls and the Rev. S. Alfred Garrett officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. The family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Samuel Alfred Garrett of Littlestown, Pa., David Garrett of Hanover, Pa., and William G. "Jerry" Garrett of Milton, W.Va; four grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Blanche Ludwick of Norfolk. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel. A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home by The Rev. Samuel Alfred Garrett. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. on June 23, 2004.6

Garrett Jr. of Virginia Beach, the Rev. S. Alfred Garrett of Littlestown, Pa., David P. Garrett of Hanover, Pa., and W. Gerald "Jerry" Garrett of Milton, W.Va; three grandchildren, Troy D. Pierson and Kara E. Pierson, both of Chesapeake, and Conor F. Flaherty of Orlando, Fla; two great-grandchildren, Kayla M. Pierson and Logan Douglas Pierson of Virginia Beach; four stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat- grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A celebration of Mrs. Basnight's life will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Glad Tidings Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. on December 27, 2007.5

A lifelong Norfolk native, Mr. Basnight graduated from Maury High School and was a veteran of WW II. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Garrett Basnight, his parents and six siblings. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather - PawPaw. Mr. Basnight retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after thirty-five years. He attended Southeastern Bible College and was an active member of Glad Tidings Church/Coastal Virginia Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, Worship Leader for twenty-five years, Church Secretary, Church Treasurer, Visitation Pastor, Senior Citizens Pastor, Coach of Softball team and Song Leader for Seniors. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Strohecker and husband Phil, Susan Jensen and husband Johnny; three grandchildren Troy Pierson, Conor Flaherty, Kara Boccarossa; four step grandchildren Nicole Strohecker Jayson Strohecker, (Summer), Courtney Strawhand and husband Landon and Ashley Strohecker; two great grandchildren Kayla and Logan Pierson and four step great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 1:00 p.m. at Glad Tidings/Coastal Virginia Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on August 21, 2016.6

Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents Claude Garrett, Sr. and Johnsie Garrett, a sister Joyce Garrett Basnight and a brother John Arthur Garrett. He was also preceded in death by his wife Betty Foster Garrett whom he met at Glad Tidings Church at the age of 11 and married 9 years later. He was a graduate of Norview High School and retired from the Ford Motor Company after 31 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and enjoyed playing the violin and saxophone in his earlier years. Survivors include 3 brothers Samuel Alfred Garrett, David Patrick Garrett and William Gerald Garrett, numerous nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law Linda Foster Absalom. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019, 11a.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home with interment to follow at Rosewood-Memorial Park.3 He was buried at Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery, 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia.3 He was born on September 8, 1930 at Norfolk, Virginia.5 He married Betty McGee Foster on March 24, 1951.3,7,5 Claude Bartlett Garrett Jr. died on April 26, 2019 at Virginia at age 88.3

Betty McGee Foster Betty Foster Garrett, 86, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2018. Mrs. Garrett was born in Charlotte, NC and at 6 months of age moved to Norfolk. She attended Lafayette Elementary, Blair Middle and graduated from Maury High School in 1950. She served as a secretary for 45 years. She met the love of her life in church at 9 years of age and married him at the age of 18. She learned to play piano at age 5 and took lessons to perfect her skills and played piano and the pipe organ at Glad Tidings Church, formerly at Spotswood and Colonial Avenue in Norfolk. Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years Claude B. Garrett Jr; a sister Linda Foster Absalom; 3 brothers-in-law The Rev. Samuel Alfred Garrett, David Patrick Patrick and William Gerald Garrett; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 10, from 10 to 11am at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am. Susan was born in Norfolk, VA to Blanche Rose Ludwick and the late Ned F. Ludwick Sr. She was the widow of John A. Garrett, her beloved husband of 38 years. She is pre-deceased by her one and only baby brother, Ned F. Ludwick Jr. Left to cherish her memory is her mother, Blanche Rose and her three daughters, Robin G. She had a beautiful smile and those who were blessed to know her loved her immensely; she will be loved and deeply missed forever. on April 15, 2015.2
