Charlene was born Aug. 4, 1932, in Island Branch, W.Va., the daughter of Doy A. Nichols and Virgie Haynes Nichols. Charlene was raised and spent her early years in West Virginia, graduating from high school there and working for Owens Illinois. She was transferred to the Clarion O-I Plant in 1963 and remained in Clarion since then. However, Charlene traveled back to West Virginia many times and always thought of herself as a West Virginian. Charlene began on the assembly line at O-I, moved into the office and retired as traffic manager with over 30 years of service. She sold Dutchmaid clothing for many years and was a top salesperson, making many good friends along the way. Charlene was a member of the O-I Quarter Century Club, the O-I Golden Emblem Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion, where she was instrumental in starting a book club. Charlene enjoyed traveling and visited many countries during her lifetime. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Faye Ernestine McCoy; and her great-nephew, Ricky Filler. Charlene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Vance Slike, and her grandchildren Cameron and Bailee Slike of Shippenville; her niece, Jo Ann Perry (Gentry) of Savannah, Ga; her great-niece, Cheryl Morrison; and great-nephew David Filler. Also surviving are many cousins, among them Shirley Studebaker and her husband Johnny of Mansfield, Ohio and Brenda Eastwood and her husband Jack of Poca, W.Va. She is also survived by Kevin Slike and Nancy and Ed Ganoe, good friends whose assistance to her in the last years of her life is immeasurable. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory in Clarion on Sunday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Katelyn Samuel of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Clarion Cemetery. on October 19, 2013.2
