Arthur died on July 3, 2009 at Wadesboro, Anson Co., North Carolina, at age 83.5,4 She Cecelia Arthur Gordon WADESBORO -- Mrs. Gordon, formerly of Roanoke, VA, died Friday, July 3, 2009, in the Hospice Haven of Richmond County while her daughter lovingly held her hand. Funeral services will be 2:00PM Tuesday in Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Robert W. Rollins officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Interment will be on Wednesday in the Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, VA. Mrs. Gordon was born November 9, 1925, in the Jefferson Hospital, Roanoke, VA. She was the daughter of the late Maynard F. and Evelyn Gray Arthur. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Farmville State Teachers College (now Longwood College) in Farmville, VA where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Cotillion Club. Mrs. Gordon was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church where she was married to Earl Bennett Gordon, Jr. on September 20, 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 28, 1994. She was currently a member of First United Methodist Church of Wadesboro. She is survived by her loving daughter, Dorothy Gordon Burrows and her husband, Sam of Cary; and her only grandchild, Robert Gordon McGirt of Cary. Dottie fondly remembers many years ago when her mother gave her a copy of Temple Bailey's 'Mother's Day' having underlined part of the closing paragraphs that comforted her, 'And the mother said, 'I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know that the end is better than the beginning, for my child can walk alone and their children after them.'" The very next sentence however, is what comforts Dottie now, 'And the child said, 'You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates.'" Memorials may be made to Hospice Haven of Richmond County, 1119 N. US Hwy. 1, Rockingham, NC 28379. Leavitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. on July 6, 2009.4

He was the son of the late Earl Bennett Gordon Sr. and Hazel Walton Gordon. He was retired Vice President of Wansona Mfg. and Hornwood Inc. He was a veteran of US Army World War II, a member of First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro, N.C. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Virginia Tech. Surviving are his wife, Cecelia Gordon; one daughter, Dottie Gordon Burrows, Cary, N.C; one grandson, Robert Gordon McGirt, Cary, N.C. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 1994 at Evergreen Burial Park with Dr. Gregory L. Adkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, 1994 at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 241, Wadesboro, N.C. 28170. on April 29, 1994.3
