He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during World War II and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Deaver Tetlow; two sons, Daniel Tetlow III of Roanoke and David C. Tetlow of Richmond; and two grandchildren. A memorial service was conducted Saturday, May 12, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home chapel, Salem, by the Rev. Brent Williams. on May 16, 2007.2

She had also served Rockbridge County as the County Registrar for many years. Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Sadie Deaver; husband, Daniel Tetlow Jr; and sister, Mildred Louise Kuhner. Her surviving family includes her sons, Dan Tetlow III and wife, Mildred, of Roanoke, and David Tetlow, of Richmond; sister, Nell Loving Deaver, of Columbus, N.C; grandchildren, Emily Sprinkle and husband, Brian, of Marion, and Courtney Tetlow, of Roanoke; and many other family members. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem with the Rev. Brent Williams officiating. A period of visitation will follow until 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia's name to the Roanoke Valley SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Avenue, N.E., Roanoke, Va. 24012. on July 25, 2009.2

She is survived by her sister, Barbara Keith of Florida; her brother-in-law, Dan Tetlow of Virginia; in-laws in Florida, a large clan of Keiths in South Carolina and Hathaway family members in Massachusetts. Jo-Ann is a national member of the DAR and of the Mayflower Society. A 40-year resident of Richmond, Jo-Ann also leaves behind many cherished friends, to include Mary, Karen, Tyla and Diane. An Army brat, born in Greenville, S.C., she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, and made Richmond, her favorite city, her home, where she began an art teaching career at Brookland Middle School in Henrico County. Jo-Ann loved gardening and is well-known for her gifts of home-grown tomatoes and homemade blackberry jam. A talented artist, her paintings, ceramic works, pottery, and unique gargoyles are gifts her friends and family hold dear. Together, David and Jo-Ann shared a love of animals, rescuing many, and of nature. Her generosity will always be remembered by her family and friends. Memorial services will be held by the Cremation and Burial Society in the Tribute Room, 1927 Westmoreland St., Richmond, Va. 23230. Call 355-3360 for details.
