Wayne K. Chism Swayzee – Wayne K. Chism, 80, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in his residence. He was born in Wells County, Indiana on November 13, 1931 to the late Ferel "Pell" and Hazel Helena (Barker) Chism. Wayne married Mary Jane Thompson on September 8, 1951, and she preceded him in death on September 30, 2001. Wayne was a very patriotic man who loved his country. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served as a Petty Officer, 2nd Class during the Korean War. He was a Dispersement Officer on Marshall Island, as well as in Japan. Wayne was head of salaried benefits at General Motors and retired after 31 years of employment. He also owned his own business in Swayzee, Chism's Tax Service, preparing taxes. Wayne was president of GM Salaried Retirees for over 25 years, president of Swayzee Alumni, and past Swayzee Water Clerk. He was always willing to help anyone, whether he knew them or not. Above all, he was devoted to his family. Survivors include his children, Thomas (Susan) Chism, Converse, Debra (Jerry) Chism Walls, Swayzee, Tamara (Jon) Glessner, Swayzee; grandchildren, Jenny (Cory) Craig, Michael (Allycin) Chism, Jessica (Brock) Ricks, Amy Heincker, Samantha (Matt) Wickes, Leah (Tim) Miller Megan, (Christian) Casciola, Zachary Glessner, Caleb Glessner, Rebecca Glessner; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Cohen, Hunter, Jeremiah, Ava, Mae, Gabriella, Haley, Perrin, and Talon, and one great-granddaughter on the way; sister, Betty (Merrill) Dailey; brothers, Rex (Clara) Chism and Jim Chism; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Homer (JoAnn) Duncan; and his dog, Lady. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington Street, Swayzee, Indiana. Funeral Service will be at 11 am on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington Street, Swayzee, Indiana with Reverend Jim Miller officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee, Indiana.
