She joined her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, James Edward Gwaltney; and her parents, James Charles and Claire Marie Dillon Henley. A great-nephew, Austin Henley; and a great-niece, Brittany Henley, also preceded her in death. Dottie was a very elegant lady. She was a person who loved her family and friends without any reservations. A lifelong Methodist she was very dedicated in her faith and most recently attended Cave Spring United Methodist Church. Dottie was also a very diligent worker and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with nearly 40 years of service. Her survivors include her sister, Connie Henley Dudley; her brother, Bob Henley; an uncle, James H. Dillon (Christine); nieces, Dana Montgomery (Tony) and Miranda Dudley; and nephews, Steve Spencer (Lou), Tracy Henley (Kim), James Henley (Sissy) and Troy Henley. Also surviving are her special friends, Linda Alexander, Earl and Marci Atkins; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill. on February 14, 2017.2

Jerry Wayne Harris Mr. Jerry Wayne Harris, formerly of the Brosville Community, passed away on November 9, 2022, after an extended illness. Mr. Harris was born on November 26, 1941, in Pittsylvania County. He was the oldest son of the late James Clyde “Jiggs” Harris and the late Mary Alice Soyars Harris. He was a long-time member of the Brosville community and a graduate of Brosville High School. Mr. Harris was an avid fan of bluegrass music and enjoyed picking and grinning on his guitar with his family and friends. He was predeceased by wives Judith Bryant Harris and Evelyn DeHart Harris. He was the father of Lisa Harris Ober of Charlotte, NC and Beth Harris Keefer and husband Derek of Raleigh, NC and the stepfather of Brenda and Vince Millard of Danville and Jettie and Deborah Wright of Salem, VA. He was the beloved grandfather of Zachary, Matthew, Baylee, Christopher and Chad and the great-grandfather of Brelynn, David, Madison, Alicia and Ella. Mr. Harris is survived by his brothers Daryl Harris (Susan) of South Boston and Ricky Harris (Joanne) and Mark Harris (Diane) of Danville, and a sister-in-law, Cynthia Harris of Pilot Mountain, NC. He is predeceased by brother Jimmy Harris and his faithful companion Sly. Mr. Harris was previously a member of Welcome Baptist Church and then a deacon at Vandola Baptist Church. Barbara was born August 5, 1936 in Roanoke. Barbara graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in the wonderful class of 1954 and remained an active class reunion committee member. She retired from Bell Atlantic with 43 years of service. Barbara was a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church in Roanoke. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 45 years, Homer W. Manning; her daughter, Barbara Kathryn Manning, Roanoke. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Roberta Woodson Hodges Garst and David Richard Hodges; and also by an infant sister, Rebecca Frances Hodges. Surviving is her stepfather, Howard C. Garst and nine uncles and aunts and their spouses, Joseph Woodson, Fred and Lois Woodson, Bobby "Pete" Woodson, Dorothy Jean and Tommy Hartman, Rachel and Frank Guthrie, Joyce and Lester Reed, all of Roanoke, Shirley and Marvin Foster, Rosemary and Tom Palmer of Vinton, Janice and Ron Sink, Blue Ridge. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Thelma Manning, Roanoke; and the following sisters and brothers-in-law and their spouses, Arlene Honaker, Darlene Honaker, Thomas and Mary Manning Roanoke, Evelyn and Jerry Harris of Danville, Cindy and Richard "Buddy" Owens, Salem, Barbara is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and devoted friends. Interment to follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the family members, friends, doctors and nurses that provided care and loving support to Barbara throughout her long illness. Special gratitude to the Oncology physicians and nurses of Carilion Roanoke Rehab, 3rd Floor and the Carilion Southwest Virginia Center; the physical therapists with Lewis Gale Medical Center Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center; and Gentle Shepard Hospice for her care.
