Herman adored his grandchildren, Ted Garner, John Cadigan, Elizabeth Cadigan, David Garner, Sandy Ramirez, David Dummer, John and Elizabeth Cadigan, Kyle and Ryan Harper, Joey and Jessica Sandercoch, Tina and David Garner and great-grandchildren, Monica, Nazarith and Ziahia Garner, Skylar Dummer and Shandi Anderson. Herman is also survived by his dogs that he loved, Mitcy, Bronco Elway and Buddy. There will be a funeral service on March 2, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. The service will take place at the Big Valley Bible Church, 226 Poplar St., Lodi, California, followed by a committal service at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, March 1, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. The visitation will be at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi. Donations may be sent to the American Lung Assn. of California, Valley Lode Branches, 1231 W. Robinhood Drive, Stockton, California 95207 on February 27, 2005.6

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666. A celebration of Grathel's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1004 Yorktown Rd., Yorktown, VA 23693; or the Hampton Baptist Church Building Fund, 40 King's Way, Hampton, VA 23669. on October 4, 2011.3

Ambrose of Hampton; a son, James J. Sheppard of York County; two sisters, Mrs. Ford Sisson of Shawville and Mrs. Bill Lounsdale of Missouri; two brothers, Other Sheppard of Buena Vista and Rex Sheppard of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; and one grandchild. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Raymond Powell, George Viertel, Robert Lanahan, Ed Nulty, Sterling Dowden, Donald Adams, Leon ard Hurt and T. W. E. Hankinson. The Laymen's Sunday School class of Hampton Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers. on June 13, 1965.6

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ralph S. Manning Jr; daughter, Melanie June DeLong (Richard); sister, Rebecca Sisson (John); brother, Malvin S. Jr. (Sonny) Reed (Betty); and along with her husband, other caregivers, Geraldine Hicks and Michelle Dickerson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scruggs Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 2130 Bluewater Drive, Moneta, Va. 24121 and/or Halesford Baptist Church, 2485 Lost Mountain Road, Wirtz, Va. 24151. Funeral services will be conducted from Halesford Baptist Church noon Tuesday, January 2, 2018 with the Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. at the church Arrangements by Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 62 VA Market Place Drive (Route 220 @Wirtz Road), Rocky Mount. on December 31, 2017.3
