Survivors include a son, James W. Poff and wife Betty of Terre Haute; a daughter, Patricia R. Moore and husband Jack of S.C; five grandchildren, William C. Poff and wife Martha of Terre Haute, Timothy M. Poff and wife Karen, Lewis, James M. Poff and wife Sheri of Minnesota, Michelle Mullens and husband Chuck of Terre Haute, and Melissa Hatcher and husband Robert, S.C; 13 great grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home with the Revs. Mark Grayless and Craig Wininger officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park. on May 7, 2008.1

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Ernest "Walter" Barnes just one month prior to her passing. She is survived by her daughters, Marie (Mike) Peace, Kimberly (Jamie) Good, Tammy (Kevin) Scott and Nicole (Chris) Holcombe, her sisters Jackie Hutcheson and Diane (Don) Yungk. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 3 of which she cared for after the death of their mother and who cared for her as her health declined, Hunter Barnes and Faylinn and Demi Sauders. Joyce also leaves behind 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved deeply. Joyce will be greatly missed but we find comfort knowing she and Walter are together again. Walter was preceded in death by his daughter Jacqueline “Renee’” Barnes Saunders, his mother Margaret Winslow Barnes, his brother James and sisters Connie, Barbara and Mary. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce Gearheart Barnes, daughters, Marie (Mike) Peace, Kimberly (Jamie) Good, Tammy (Kevin) Scott, Nicole (Chris) Holcombe and his 3 grandchildren, Hunter Barnes and Faylinn and Demi Saunders who adored and took care of him right until the end. With 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved and who loved him immensely, he will be greatly missed. We can only hope he’s enjoying his eternal life with his daughter Renee’ fishing on a beach somewhere. Jim was born in Norfolk to the late, Jack and Marie Rossano Gearheart. Besides his parents he was predeceased by the love of his life, Nancy Denning and her daughter, Tracey Lewis. Jim attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and was a graduate of Maury High School; he currently serves on the Board of Directors for St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery; he retired as a warehouse manager with Norfolk Paint Company and for the last several years was employed with Greenbrier Florist. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Jackie Hutcheson and her husband, Ray, Diane Yungk and her husband, Don, Joyce Barnes and her husband, Walter; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Norfolk. on March 17, 2015.3

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Jasper, two sons Bobby Nicewander and Mike Nicewander, one grandson Davey Gaughan, Jr. Survivors include her son Daniel Nicewander and wife Diana of Bluefield, WV, two daughters Wanda Nicewonder and husband Bill of IL and Cynthia Gaughan and husband David of IN. Two brothers Benjamin Hall of WV and Marshall Hall of WV. Two sisters Elizabeth “Libby” Vaughan of WV and Mary Hall of TN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Christine, Samantha, Meaghan, Robert, Emily, Zoe, Heather and Will. One great granddaughter Madeline.
