Juanita Poff was buried at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Prince George's Co., Maryland.1 She Juanita Poff Nicholson, age 90, of Lusby, MD passed away on November 9, 2012 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, MD. Juanita was born on February 8, 1922 in Roanoke, VA to the late Claudine Elizabeth Page and Clyde Arthur Poff, Sr., she was preceded in death by her sister Louise M. Day and her grandson Tracy Benson McGowan. Juanita certainly enjoyed her entire time here, all 90 years, even during her last week she was a "Mover and Shaker" participant at her very recent home at Solomons Nursing Center. She drove daily until a few months ago in June. Juanita was very active with her senior friends and the Golden Girls Club. Mrs. Nicholson was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #274, Lusby, MD, VFW Auxiliary Post #2562, Silver Spring and the Solomons Third Alarm Auxiliary, Solomons, MD. She is survived by her children Joan Zottig of Oakton, VA; Benson McGowan of Rockville, MD; Vic McGowan of Lusby, MD and Juanita Hamilton of Frederick, MD, her brother Clyde Poff, Jr. of Rockville, MD, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Cecil A. Shears, 34, who died November 29, 1948, in 24th medical Battalion Hospital, Sasebo, Ayushu, Japan, following a short illness, will arrive here tomorrow morning. He was the son of Alex and Virginia Johnston Shears and was born in Tiffin, Ohio. He enlisted in the Army June 19, 1936, and after serving three years in the Panama Canal Zone he reenlisted in 1939 and was stationed with the War Department Motor Division at Fort Myer, Va. In 1943 he was sent to the Asiatic Pacific Theater with Company K, 128th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Division, and served as a scout for 28 months in three major campaigns, New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Northern Luzon. Pvt. Shears received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three battle stars; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon; the World War II Victory Medal; American Defense Medal, and Combat Infantrymans’s Badge. Following his return to the United States he reenisted in 1947 at Fort Meade and left for Japan September 17, 1948. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Mrs. Opal (Collins) Shears; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Gardner and Mrs. Edna Lewis, and three brothers, Owen, Olin and Neville Shears, all of Keyser. Internment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. on January 21, 1949.5

Anna worked and retired from Rubatex. She was a member of Liberty Chapter #109 Order of the Eastern Star and BPOE Elks Lodge #321. Anna was also a resident of the Elks National Home. Anna is survived by a son, Michael Zimmerman and his wife, Donna, of Bedford; numerous nieces and nephews, Dottie Padgett, Marvin Yopp, Barbara Ely, Janie Bower, Eunice Tolley, Virginia Smith and Colene Deacon; many great-nieces and nephews; many great great nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Skip Crompton of the Elks National Home. Burial will follow in Elks Rest Cemetery. on September 24, 2009.3
