Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hodges in Kegley. Burial will take place in Mooney cemetery on Black Oak mountain. The body will be removed from the Fredeking-Seaver Mortuary Saturday to the grandparent's home. on September 24, 1949.²

     John Boyd Whitlow Sr. John Boyd Whitlow, Sr., 73 of Peterstown died Sunday, January 19th, 2003 in Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born April 22nd, 1929 at Kellysville, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Hattie Peters Whitlow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Allen Whitlow; two sisters, Maggie Turner and Doris Clemons; and three brothers, Jim Whitlow, Lonnie Whitlow and Koh Whitlow. A veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy, he also served two terms as commander of VFW Post #6000 in Narrows, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by two sons, John Boyd Whitlow, Jr. of Princeton, and Eric Todd Whitlow and wife Cynthia of Peterstown; one daughter and her husband, Kim and Rick Thomas of Pearisburg; four sisters, Frances Stewart of Kingsport, Tennessee; Faye and Allen Smith of Rossville, Georgia; Polly and Harry Hodge of Blacksburg; and Lola and Sidney Gilbert of Lake Wales, Florida; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services, conducted by VFW Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Post #68 of Narrows and American Legion Post #311 of Pembroke will be held Thursday.
