Kendrick Hartman Stevens of Roanoke, Va., beloved father, husband, uncle, Papa, and brother, has looked upon the face of the One who saved him by his grace. Kenny passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Annie Stevens, and thirteen of his brothers and sisters who have been waiting for him to come home. Sink, age 78, died at his home Wednesday. He was a retired barber. N. Elmore, died at the home of his parents, 419 Gilmer Avenue, N. E., at 6:10 Saturday evening. Death was due to pneumonia following influenza. Mr. Elmore is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Leslie H., Everett B., Bonnie W., of Roanoke, and B. C. Elmore, of Little Rock, Ark; Christine Elmore and Mrs. E. W. Epperley, of Roanoke, Mrs. A. C. Beamer, of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. J. J. Lawlor, of Clifton Forge. All the brothers and sistrswill attend the funeral and the time of the service will not be announced until they arrive in the city. on January 13, 1919.⁵

     Clement Jacobvalentine Pete Sink Sr. was buried at Fayette Memorial Gardens, 3105 Interstate 43, Fayette, Fayette Co., Alabama.¹⁰ He was born on January 25, 1932 at Henry Co., Virginia.^2,10 He married Barbara Jean Underwood on November 26, 1951 at Roanoke, Virginia.^11,3 Clement Jacobvalentine Pete Sink Sr. and Barbara Jean Underwood were divorced on February 10, 1960 at Roanoke, Virginia.¹² Clement Jacobvalentine Pete Sink Sr. married Emma Lou Johnson on February 21, 1961 at Hildago Co., Texas.^13,5 Clement Jacobvalentine Pete Sink Sr. died on December 13, 2014 at Fayette, Fayette Co., Alabama, at age 82.^10,4 He Clement "Clem" J.P. Sink Sr., age 82, of Fayette, died December 13, 2014, at home. He is survived by his wife, Emma L. Sink of Fayette, Ala; daughters, Alyse Read (Gary) of Seattle, Wash., and Linda Muse (Alan) of Roanoke, Va; sons, Clement J.P.      Goldie Ann Sink was buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, Richland Co., South Carolina.⁹ She was born on October 27, 1933 at Franklin Co., Virginia.^2,9,4 She married Roy Owen Thompson Jr. on September 27, 1952 at Roanoke, Virginia.^6,2,3,5 As of September 27, 1952,her married name was Thompson.² Goldie Ann Sink died on November 2, 2015 at West Columbia, Lexington Co., South Carolina, at age 82.^9,5 She Goldie Ann Sink Thompson, 82, of Norway, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia. Born in humble settings in Henry County, Virginia, she was the youngest child of Dorothy Naomi Conner and Gaston Aruna Sink. Goldie worked in civil service at the Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic and retired in 1998 from the Defense Finance and Accounting Services. By all who knew her, she was a generous and loving spirit and touched the hearts of all she met. She always told her children live forever, and so she shall in our hearts. Goldie is survived by her devoted and loving children, Deirdre Lynn Thompson Gore and Roy Owen Thomps on III; a grandson, Roy Owen Thompson IV and a great-grandson, Owen Thompson. Goldie was raised among a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins steeped in lov and family tradition and gifted those same qualities to her children. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Pearl Naomi Sink; a brother Clement J. P. Sink; and her husband, Roy Owen Thompson Jr. The family would like to extend a most sincere and heartfelt thank you to the Lexington Medical Center Oncology Center and Lexington Extended Care for the compassion and care extended to Goldie and our family. on November 4, 2015.⁵

     Emma Lou Johnson was buried at Fayette Memorial Gardens, 3105 Interstate 43, Fayette, Fayette Co., Alabama.² She was born on December 10, 1932.² She married Clement Jacobvalentine Pete Sink Sr., son of Gaston Aruna Sink and Dorothy Naomi Conner, on February 21, 1961 at Hildago Co., Texas.^1,3 As of February 21, 1961,her married name was Sink.³ Emma Lou Johnson died on April 28, 2018 at Fayette, Fayette Co., Alabama, at age 85.¹ She Emma Lou Johnson Sink, age 85, of Fayette, died April 28, 2018, at home surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clement J.P. Sink; parents, Gener and Dolly Johnson; sister, Iva McDonald; brothers, Darroll Johnson and Bravitt Johnson; and grandson, Gordon T.M. Woodard. Survivors include her daughter, Alyse Read (Gary) of Edmonds, Washington; sons, T.M. "Gordon" Woodard (Jimmie) of Guntersville; Clement J.P. Sink Jr. (Joann) of Hamilton; brothers, Donald R.      His Social Security Number was 231-32-5760.⁶ Roy Owen Thompson Jr. was buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, Richland Co., South Carolina.^5,7 He Roy Owen Thompson, Jr., BMC, USN (Ret.), 79, died peacefully at home on Saturday July 17, 2010. Born in humble setting in Roanoke, Virginia, on November 16, 1930, he was the fourth of six children of Roy Owen Thompson, Sr., and Dorothy Mae Bushnell Thompson. Roy entered the Navy at the age of 17. During his 30-year military career, Roy served his country proudly aboard a number of ships including the USS Compass Island, USS Proteus, USS Valley Forge, USS Taconic, and the USS Saipan. He was awarded numerous awards including the Navy Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, and the National Defense service Medal. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frederick Algie Thompson; and two sisters, Roberta Mae Thompson Lavender and Phyllis Christine Thompson Caldwell. Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Goldie Ann Sink Thompson; a daughter, Deirdre Lynn Thompson Gore; a son, Roy Owen Thompson III; a grandson Roy Owen Thompson IV; and two sisters, Doris Alene Thompson Caldwell and Elizabeth Ann Thompson Poff. By all who knew him, Roy will be remembered most for the sheer force of his personality and contagious sense of humor and will be missed by all.      Susan F. Pence was buried at Waugh Cemetery, New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia; Buried in an unmarked fenced grave next to Stephen Andrew Hancock.^2,1 She dgibby45 - Children of Susan Pence and Stephen Hancock: According to some family sources, Susan Pence had 2 children by a Mr. Brown, 5 children by a Mr. Franklin, and one child by Stephen Andrew Hancock. Stephen had 4 children by his first wife, Sarah Ballard Craft (my great grand aunt, who along with one of the children, died in childbirth).

It is believed by some of these famly sources that after Stephen and Susan married, Stephen adopted all of Susan's children; however, I find that highlly doubtful for the following reasons:

Charges in criminal court by the Commonwealth of Va. against Stephen and Susan regarding martial status and parentage of the children, which were dropped after Stephen and Susan married.

Financial status of the family ( they were at one time being audited by the Overseers of the Poor), so it is doubtful that he could have afforded to formally adopt the children.

A Chancery Court Record from 1952 in which the petitioner, Theodore R. Craft (son of Florence Belle Franklin Hancock Craft-my grandmother, and daughter of Susan) asks the court to adjudicate the dispersal of the estate of his aunt, Ocie Ann Franklin Hancock Van Horn.

Included in the petition, T.R. Craft lists all of Ocie Ann's heirs, both of the "full-blood" and of the "half-blood". These heirs are Ocie Ann's neices and nephews and their descedents. Those listed as "full-blood" are the descendents of Laura Katherine Brown Hancock Elmore and Madora Brown Hancock Fisher, as well as Robert Watt Franklin Hancock. Otis Dillard Franklin Hancock, Florence Belle Franklin Hancock Craft, and Panola Mae Franklin Hancock Simpson. Although William Hamilton (Tom) Hancock was a "full-blooded sibling, he had no biological children, and his step-children were not included in the petition.

The heirs of the "half-blood" are descendents of Stephen's children by his first wife, Sarah Craft Hancock.

It would, appear, therefore, that the two children listed by the surname Brown and the 5 children listed by the surname "Franklin" were, in fact, "full-blooded" siblings, meaning that Stephen Hancock was most likely the biological father of all the children, and not there adoptive father. Unless more information becomes available, then the only way to prove this is through extensive DNA testing of the descendents of Susan and Stephen.³ She was born on August 19, 1831 at Mount Jackson, Shenandoah Co., Virginia.^2,4 She married Stephen Andrew Hancock, son of Barnett Hancock, on July 7, 1873 at New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia; Susan listed no parents when she married Stephen.^5,2,4 As of July 7, 1873,her married name was Hancock. Susan F. Pence died on March 11, 1884 at New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia, at age 52.^2,4

     Susan Faye Bell was born on September 29, 1950 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,2,4 As of March 2, 1968,her married name was Kegley.⁴ She married Lewis Early Kegley on March 2, 1968 at Eden, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.^1,4 Susan Faye Bell and Lewis Early Kegley were divorced on February 9, 1971 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁴ As of January 28, 1972,her married name was Leonard.² Susan Faye Bell married Tony Ray Leonard on January 28, 1972 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.^5,2,7 Susan Faye Bell and Tony Ray Leonard were divorced on July 29, 1982 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁴ As of October 14, 1989,her married name was Childress.² Susan Faye Bell married Ray Godfrey Childress on October 14, 1989 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.^3,2 Susan Faye Bell died on June 8, 2018 at Virginia at age 67.³ She Susan Bell Childress of Roanoke County, Va., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 8, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Bell; and her brother, Gerald Bell. Susan was employed by the Veterans' Administration for 38 years. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Ray Childress; her mother, Geneva Bell White and stepfather, Paul White; her daughter, Julie Leonard (Simon Johnson); her granddaughters, Hailey Johnson and Genevieve Johnson; her niece, Jody Bell; and two great-nieces, Samantha Taylor and Kristen Bell, who were like her children. Susan wanted to thank Becky Kinser, Karen Gingras, Lisa Craighead, Lisa Robertson, Ola Rierson, Ildiko Pratt, cousins, Robin, Cindy, Doug, and Aunt Pearl, Charlotte and Shirley for everything they did during her illness.
