He was born in Haysi, Va., on May 21, 1939, to the late Rufus Howard and Ruby Willis Compton. He also preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Jefferson "Jeff" Compton. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1956 until 1959. Wayne worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Wiley N Jackson also worked at the motor pool at Virginia Tech, and was self employed as a mechanic in Elliston. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joy C. Compton of Blacksburg; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Clifford "Cliff" and Sherry Jones Compton of Christiansburg; two sisters and brother-in-law, Theda Webster of Christiansburg, and Dorothy Sue and Teddy Willis of Clover, S.C; brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Sidney Compton of Christiansburg; two grandchildren, Tera Kay Compton of Christiansburg, Sgt. Karen Elaine Compton of Ft. Irwin, Calif; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne is also survived by many friends and two special friends, Henery Garnard and Timmy Mills. Funeral Services will be conducted in the North Fork Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank the nursing staff in the ICU of Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery for all the help and support during Wayne's illness. on September 9, 2015.1

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late John Moss and Rosella Berry Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by brothers: Boyd, Lloyd, Edgar and Clarence Wheeler; sisters: Mozelle Webb, Veo Byrd, and Linda Lou Wheeler; grandchildren: Shannon Ray, Deborah Wheeler Tipton and Ava Kennedy Byrd. Floyd was a welder in the shipyards. Later he was an employee of Mohasco and OMC of Burnsville. He was a member of Green Mountain Free Will Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Floyd was loved by all whom knew him. Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Letha Saul Wheeler; three children: Linda Hudgins and husband Michael, Tommy Wheeler and wife Lynn, Pam Clark and Ronnie; a sister, Alena Silvers and husband Reece, all of Burnsville; grandchildren, James, Josh, John, and Sabrina; eleven great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and a lifelong friend, Charlie Edwards. Virginia Annette Whitlow Virginia Annette Whitlow Saul, August 21, 1934 - August 16, 2018. Virginia Annette Saul, age 83 of Rocky Mount, passed quietly on Thursday morning August 16, 2018 in her sleep and was embraced by the arms of her Lord and Savior and greeted by her husband, Earl Saul; her parents, TL and Geneva Whitlow; her baby brother, R.J; and special aunt, Virginia Agee; and many other family and friends. Mom was a hard-working woman. She married dad in December of 1951 and they lived in Callaway. She carried buckets of water from the spring for all things and chopped her wood for her kitchen stove. She worked beside dad in the garden, hayfields, and the farm, and still took care of all the duties of a housewife and mother. Mom and Dad owned and operated Saul's Grocery at Six Mile Post in the 60's. Mom started her first public job in the mid 70's at Virginia Apparel Corp. and retired after 20 years of employment. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church for over 40 years and was a Lay Speaker, a Lay Leader and Secretary for the UMW. We have never heard anyone say a bad word about mom. She was a kind, carrying and loving woman. She always greeted people with a smile and hello. She is dearly loved by many not just her family. She loved her flowers, sunshine, bluegrass music, western shows and ice cream. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Carlton and Kay Saul; daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn Saul, Sharon and Jerry Trammell; grandchildren, Natasha Saul and Gary Prater, Jackson Saul, Richard and Heather Ferguson, Jessica Ferguson, Ashley, Sandra and Katherine Altice; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Ferguson and Cameron Ingle, Richard Ferguson, Jr., Brenden Saul, Wyatt and Nathan Prater; brother, Roger and Irla Whitlow; sisters-in-laws, Helen Wray, Leatha and Floyd Wheeler; aunt, Mattie Massey; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
