He retired as a Vocational Teacher after 20 Years of service to the children of Floyd County. Worth served his country in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lucas, and a great grandson, Christopher Lucas. Survived by a wife of 71 years, Mary Lucas; three sons: Donald Lucas (Rachel), Danny Lucas (Donna), and Darren “Joe” Lucas (Misty); ten grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, one daughter-in-law: Lynette Lucas. Funeral Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127.6 He was buried at Restvale Cemetery, 7529 Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.6 He was born on October 30, 1927 at Floyd Co., Virginia.5,7,11 He married Mary Ivyl Kuykendall circa 1951.5,6 Daniel Worth Lucas died on September 23, 2022 at Virginia at age 94.6

She is survived by her children, son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Margie Richards of Martinsville; daughter and son-in-law, June and Mark Allen of Salem; son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Nona King of Roanoke; grandchildren, her beloved Kevin King (USMC), Rhonda Richardson, Kim Williamson, Melissa Guill, Daniel Allen, and Mendy Sirry; also, six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2000, from Oakey's North Chapel, Peters Creek Road, with the Rev. Elmer Clemons officiating. Interment will follow at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends after 2 p.m. Saturday, at Oakey's North Chapel. on November 19, 2000.3

Bonita Holt Barkley, 85, of the Pine Grove community, died Thursday evening at Takoma Regional Hospital. Mrs. Barkley attended Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Her family stated "She loved her flowers and loved to work in them as long as her health permitted." She was a daughter of the late Posie and Cleddie Holt, and the widow of William Barkley, her husband of 63 years who died June 4, 2008. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law: Michael Barkley of the home and Bill and Lynne Barkley of the West Pines community; two daughters: Judy Barkley and Joyce Crawford; a special granddaughter: Raven Penland of West Pines; a great-granddaughter: Katelynne Penland; two sisters: Maxine Renner and Blondine Renner; and a "wonderful friend": Ruth Horner. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the downtown chapel of Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service. The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Wayne Waycaster and the Rev. Steve Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dave Penland, Bobby Tate, Steve Starnes, Bob McAmis, Daryl Wilcox, and Marty Jackson. on October 2, 2010.1
