She joined her husband, William Edward Hall, Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, to be in the presence of their Lord Jesus Christ, together as they were on earth. She was born on April 24, 1916, in Anderson, MO, to Harrison Coleman Chapman and Lottie Lee Chapman. She was the fourth child of five, having three sisters and one brother. Christine was a devoted wife of one man and the loving mother of three daughters and two sonsin-law, as well as cherished Grandmother to one Grandson. She graduated from Research Hospital School of Nursing on February 13, 1941, and served as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps from November 4, 1941 to October 12, 1942, during which time she met and married "Bill." She worked as an RN doing Public Health Nursing in a number of cities as she and Bill moved across the country to follow Bill's career in the Veterans Administration. They settled in Muskogee, OK, in 1964, where they lived for 30-plus years before moving to Kansas City, MO, in 1994. While living in Muskogee, Christine was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), The Daughters of the Confederacy, and The History Club. Christine was a passionate reader and had an extensive library. Her "Old Fashioned" southern cooking graced many a table. She enjoyed the fellowship of Rebekah Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Muskogee. Bill and Christine relocated to Kansas City to be closer to their daughters, due to a failing health. Christine transferred her church home to Swope Park Baptist Church after the death of her husband and was happy to attend worship as her health would allow. Christine is survived by three daughters, two sons-in-law, and one grandson: Gwen Hall and her husband, Eddie Chambliss of Corpus Christi, TX, Linda Kay and Theodore Russell Maichel and grandson William Alexander Maichel, all of Kansas City, MO, along with daughter, Lottie Lee Hall, also of Kansas City, MO. Her companionship, love, wisdom, and Christian witness will be missed greatly not only by her family but by her friends in many parts of these United States. Visitation will at Stine and McClure Chapel, 3235 Gillham Plaza, in Kansas City, MO, on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, from 4 -7 p.m. Memorial Service will be at Stine and McClure Chapel on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at 11 a.m., with Funeral Services to follow immediately at the OLD Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, located on the OLD Fort Leavenworth base. Flowers can be sent to Stine & McClure Chapel. Memorial contributions should be sent to Swope Park Baptist Church for the Lottie Moon Foreign Mission Christmas Offering. (Arrangements: D.W.      Velva Jean Purdy Jean Purdy Martin, 92 of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Joseph C. Thomas Center at Richfield. She was born on May 18, 1928, to the late Kyle and Dora Sigmon Purdy. Jean retired from Elizabeth Arden after 25 years of faithful service where numerous relationships and memories were made. Those who knew her best will remember her for always smiling and saw her as an exceedingly kind and loving friend. Along with her twin sister, June, she would enjoy going to the Salem Farmers Market to listen to music, where they were known as the “Toe Tapping Twins.” Above it all, she will be remembered for her strength during life’s storms and the Love she conveyed, not only to her family, but everyone she met. Jean’s infectious smile and kindness will certainly be missed! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Martin; brother; Paul Purdy; and sister; June P. DeWease. Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her daughters; Renee Clark, of Troutville, Va. and Velva Ann Flick (David), of Salem; sister, Shirley P. Thomas, of Blacksburg, Va; three grandchildren, Shana Jackson (Bryan), of Aldie, Va., Chris Shepperd (Karrie), of Roanoke, Va., and Michelle Honaker (Brett), of Roanoke, Va; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexander, Ashton, and Annalise Honaker, all of Roanoke, Va., Jay Arney, of Forrest, Va., and Sydney Jackson, of Aldie, Va. One niece and three nephews also survive. To respect the families wishes, all services will be private at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.7 She was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.7 She was born on May 18, 1928 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,7 She married Kennet Curwood Martin, son of Luke Theodore Martin Sr. and Cecil C.
