Salvatore Joseph Liali Salvatore Joseph Liali, 84, Kokomo, died at 6:36 a.m. May 20, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. Born in Tripoli, Libya, June 10, 1928, he was the son of the late Angelo Liali and Mariantonia (LaFerlita) Liali. On Feb. 2, 1962, (Groundhog Day), he married Treva Karlene Small, who preceded him in death. A brother, Joseph Liali, also preceded him in death. Salvatore was a fisherman, journeyman and bicyclist in Sicily. He then came to the United Sates, became a citizen, became a plumber for several years, then worked at Delco Electronics, retiring in 1991. Salvatore was a traveler in his spare time, criss-crossing the United States with his family many times on his summer vacations. He enjoyed cooking, fishing and hunting. Survivors include his four children, William Orr (Kaye), Kokomo, Anthony Liali (Mercedes), Pasadena, Calif., Harriet O'Brien (Jesse), Edinburgh, and Sally Liali (Roger), Whiteland; and two sisters, Maria Liali and Carmela DeNadai. He was a proud grandparent of six grandchildren, Billy Orr, Lindsey (Orr) Bolinger, Michael Liali, Crystal (DeWitt), Jessica O'Brien and Shelby Kinsinger; and six great-grandchildren, and one on the way. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. His love for his family and friends was immeasurable. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Funeral services are planned at the son's home, the Smith homestead, at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Rev J. A. Land of Anderson, formerly of Goldsmith, and Rev. George Lee, pastor of the Goldsmith Methodist church, will be in charge of rites. Burial will be in the Goar cemetery. Young's Funeral home is in charge of arrangements and the body will lie in state at the Smith home from noon Thursday until the hour of services. Mrs. Smith was born June 5, 1867 in Franklin county to, William and Lucinda Curry, and was one of seven children. She and the late Mrs. Nora Werner, were twins. The family moved near Jackson Station. On Oct. 6, 1887, she married Samuel Smith, and they resided in the neighborhood where Mrs. Smith died. They were the parents of five children, three of whom are living. Mr. Smith died Dec. 2, 1930. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Hopewell Methodist Church. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Nollie Geneva Holderith of Kokomo; two sons, Paul and Thearl William, of Traverse City, Mich; one brother, William Curry, of Kokomo; three grandchildren, Joan VanPelt, Eugene Smith and Patsy Holderith; and one great grandchild, Therla Jean VanPelt, of Michigan. on January 5, 1949.2 She died on January 5, 1949 at Tipton Co., Indiana, at age 81.2,4

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Rosary Sodality, Daughters of Isabella, Downtowners Home Economic Club, Kokomo Women's Department Club and Omega Phi Tau sorority. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Corwin (Patricia) Tracewell of Kokomo; a foster daughter, Linda Henseleit of Galveston; four stepsons, John Richard Varnau of Huntington, Wilbur Varnau of Kokomo, Thomas Varnau of Gary and Mark Varnau of Carmel; two stepdaughters, Joan Hellman of Brownsburg and Marjorie Reagan of Martinsville; three grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Several brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Fenn Funeral Home. The Rev. Virgil Barker will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. on June 6, 1990.7
