Mr. Harvel, a retired machinist for the Clark Equipment company for over 30 years, was born in Tennessee, June 15, 1885, the son of Lacy and Sarah Harvel. His wife the former Maggie Hines, whom he married April 8, 1903, in Jonesville V., died July 6, 1948. Mr. Harvel, who had made his home with his son, James, of Jackson, Mich., for the past seven months, died at the home there early Tuesday morning. Surviving besides his son, James are another son, Chief Warrant Officer Ben Harvel, stationed in Germany; a daughter, Mrs. Carl Runyan, Va., nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. on January 5, 1955.7

The family came to Buchanan when Mr. Harvel was a child. He married Miss Ruth Best, of Buchanan, on March 18, 1927 in South Bend, Ind. Mr. Harvel had worked for the Clark Equipment Co., for 29 years at the time of his death. In 1949 he was transferred from the Buchanan plant to the Jackson plant. The Rev. Dale B. Ward, pastor of the Frist Methodist church of Buchanan will officiate at tomorrow's funeral services. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery. on December 11, 1961.3

Harvel, 51, formerly of Buchanan, died unexpectedly Tuesday in Germany where he was serving as a field officer with the American Red Cross. He was born Aug 23, 1919 in Jonesville, Va., and came to Buchanan with his parents when he was seven years old. A 1938 graduate of Buchanan High School, he en tered the Navy in 1939 serving until 1945 when he retired as a chief warrant officer. In 1946 he enlisted in the Army and was a master sergeant when he left the service in 1962 to take a post with the Red Cross. He served as a field officer in Vietnam for two years before he went to Germany three years ago. In June 1941 he married Allison Gore in New York City, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Patrick at home, and Michael with the Army in Vietnam; two daughters, Mrs. Diane Duering of Schoolcraft and Mrs. Linda Adams of San Antonio, Tex., a sister, Mrs. Carl Runyan of Buchanan and four grandchildren. Services have not been scheduled. on January 28, 1971.5
