He was born in Canton, Ohio, August 19, 1937, and has lived in the Roanoke Valley since 1968. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Merle Ruble and Julia Ball Ruble; his mother- and father-in-law, Agnes and Tom Snider; nephew, Scott Ruble; and niece, Sherri Snider. His is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Norma Snider Ruble; his children, Tina (Randall) McCallum, Tammie (Robert) Thomas, and Chad (Melissa) Ruble; grandchildren, Acacia (Steven) Etheridge, Gabrielle McCallum, Jessica Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Haley Ruble, Ethan Ruble, Trenton Ruble, Lary Garrison, and Sasha Garrison; his brothers, Byron (Carole) Ruble and Walt (Joan) Ruble; two nieces, a nephew, and a great niece; cousins, Susan Hanlon and Sr. Rose Hanlon; sister- and brothers-in- law, Nancy (Jack) Moore, Lee (Kim) Snider, Rev. Nathan (Margaret) Snider; and numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends Clark Vandergrift, Roy and Jean Main. Tom was retired from AEP after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Edgewood Lions Club since October of 1975, where he served in many capacities including two terms as District Governor of Multiple District 24-E. He served his country faithfully for two years in the United States Navy. For 44 years, Tom was a member of the South Roanoke United Methodist Church where he was a trustee for many years. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at South Roanoke United Methodist Church with the service on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. L. Stanley Wright and Rev. Nathan Snider officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to South Roanoke United Methodist Church, 2330 South Jefferson St., Roanoke, VA 24014. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Joseph Austin and the medical and nursing staff at RMH CCU, PCU, and Palliative Care units. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel. on May 30, 2014.4
