Mr. Benn's interest in aviation began when he was a boy on his family's farm in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps as a flight engineer on B-17 aircraft. After the war, with his brother, J.D. Benn, Sr., he helped develop the Washington Virginia Airport at Bailey's Crossroads. He later developed Woodbridge Airport and managed it until his retirement in 1987. During that time he owned and operated one of the largest flight schools in Virginia. He also was a dealer for Piper Aircraft. In 1953 the Civil Aeronautics Administration designated him a Pilot Examiner and he remained one until retirement. He was elected in 1989 to the Hall of Fame of the Virginia Aeronautical Society in recognition of "his distinguished contribution to the progress of aviation." In retirement in Alexandria he enjoyed collecting and judging antique DeSoto automobiles. Mr. Benn and his wife, Sadie Shank Kesler Benn, moved to Salem in 2003. He was predeceased by brothers, J.D. Benn, Sr., James Benn, and William Benn. Survivors besides his spouse include daughters by a previous marriage, Laura Benn of Adelphi, Md., Bonnie Martinez of Warrenton, Va., Terri Gentry of Newport News, Va., and Lynne Ratz of Fairfax County, Va; stepson, Rodney Kesler of Check, Va; grandchildren, Nicole Martinez, Natalie Martinez, and Michael Martinez; and step-grandchildren, Matthew Kesler and Tanya Kesler Hicks. on September 3, 2004.2

Surviving are her son, Larry Whitmire (Diane); daughter, Brenda Gayle Trent (Jimmy); grandchildren, Lynn Whitmire (Melissa), Jimmy Trent, III (Amy) and Michael Whitmire (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Dylan and Owen Whitmire; brother, Leonard Shank (Barbara); and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Salem Terrace at Harrogate for their many acts of care and compassion. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on December 29, 2021.5

Shank, Jr. of Roanoke and Thomas L. and Michelle Shank of Swoope; a brother Leonard Shank; a sister, Dorothy Whitmire, both of Roanoke; and three grandchildren, Mackenzie Wade, Jordyn Shank, and Rylee Shank. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Preston Shank and two sisters, Elizabeth Boitnott and Norma Jean Williams. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Harold W. “Pete” Campbell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Virginia Blood Services, Augusta Health, Augusta Community Care Building, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.

Enoch Statts Randolph was buried at Cedarlawn Cemetery, 2434 West Capitol Street, Jackson, Hinds Co., Mississippi.4,3 He Enoch S. Randolph, 80, died Sunday morning at the Old Men's Home, following an extended illness. A native of West Virginia, he had lived in Jackson for over 35 years. Mr. Randolph was a retired salesman and was a member of the West Capitol Street Church of Christ. His only survivor is his wife, the former Mamie Huber of Jackson. Interment will be in Cedarlawn cemetery. Pallbearer will be: J. C. Adams, J. S. Duvall, L. D. Loden, Earl Lawson, Phil Roberts and Raymond Thomas.3 He was born on August 28, 1877 at West Virginia; His gravestone has a birth year of 1878.1,2,3 He married Dora Ellen Shank, daughter of John Wesley Shank and Sarah Jane Dickerson, on October 20, 1904 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,5 Enoch Statts Randolph died on April 21, 1957 at Jackson, Hinds Co., Mississippi, at age 79.3
