Martin, born to Ed and Elva Martin on December 10, 1936, 83, died on Sunday, February 16, 2020. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geneva Fitzgerald. After graduating from William Fleming High School and six months at Va. Tech, he went to work for Piedmont Airlines in Roanoke for 12 years, attaining Chief Agent of Operations. He was promoted to Assistant Station Manager at Washington National Airport. After two and half years in Washington, he was promoted to station manager in Lynchburg, Va. After 12 years in Lynchburg, he was promoted to station manager in Asheville, N.C. After seven years in Asheville and the buyout by US Air, he returned to Lynchburg and retired there after 34 years with the airlines. Mr. Martin was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Joshua Family Sunday School class. He drove a church bus and was the chairman of the Baptism committee for several years. Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce D. Martin; sons, Kevin Martin (Elizabeth), Rodney Martin (Cheli); grandchildren, Avery, Courteney, Tiffany, and Daniel. Interment will follow services at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. on February 18, 2020.1

In 1934, while serving in the National Guard, he was a guard for President Franklin D. Roosevelt for the opening ceremony of the Veterans Hospital in Salem, Va. He retired from the American Bridge Works in Roanoke in 1965. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cassie; two sisters, Addie McCall and Ruby English; two sons, Delmas L. and his wife, Chris of Seymour, Ind. and John Douglas and his wife, Tina of Winchester, Va. He is also survived by one daughter, Jeannie Hughes and her husband, Ronnie of Roanoke; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff on Floor 4-J of the Veterans Hospital in Salem, Va. for all the care and support given during this difficult time. We would also like to thank a very special caretaker, Carlos with House Call. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at Oakey's South Chapel with Rev. Al Frank officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Mark was born in Roanoke and graduated from Glenvar High School. He was an employee of Best Buy until his illness kept him from further pursuing his media career. He enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, gardening, cooking, and coin collecting. He also loved a good political debate and had the privilege of speaking at one of the latest Tea Party events in Roanoke and Washington, D.C. His most favorite daily activity was spending time with his most trusted companion, his dog, Abbie. Mark is survived by his mother, Wanda L. Henry and stepfather, Ira Stephen Henry, Roanoke; father, Frank R. Fisher and stepmother, Tina M. Fisher, Boones Mill; brothers, Randy Fisher and wife, Lisa, Robert, Frankie, and Thomas Fisher, Boone's Mill; sister, Rhonda Witt and her special friend John Grubb; stepsisters, Nikki Trivett and Maggie Henry; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of the ICU Depts. on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors and the staff of 5W of Lewis-Gale Hospital for the wonderful care they provided for Mark each day. We also want to give a special thank you to Dr. Bhaba Misra and Liz Nelson for their kindness and deep compassion during Mark's illness. Many thanks to those who visited with Mark and talked with him during the last six weeks of his illness. "Know that he heard you!" On July 4, 2012.1
