Born May 6, 1923 at Pettry, he was the son of the late Hollie Meadows and Leotie Meadows Ferguson Gore. James served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the 743rd Engineer Heavy Shop Company. He had worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways and retired from Concord College in Athens serving as the ground foreman for the Physical Plant. James was a member of Mount Jackson Baptist Church in Athens. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, and truly loved working with his flowers and in the gardens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brookie Alma Conner Meadows, a sister, Lauvella Pettrey and a great grandson, Anthony Michael Meadows. Those left to cherish his memories are his sons, Michael James Meadows and wife Carol of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Gerald Edward Meadows and wife Connie and her sister Linda of Matoaka; a loving daughter, Lynnis Hill and husband Frank of Speedway; his grandchildren, Melinda Dawn Severt and husband Mike, Michael James “Jamie” Meadows and wife Katie, Carl Meadows and wife Rachel, Kathy Hatfield and husband Timmy, all of Pettry, Jonathan Meadows and wife Wendy of Princeton, Joseph Meadows of Matoaka, Terri Martin and husband Zach of Lerona, and Adam Hill of Speedway; his great-grandchildren, Haley and Sean Severt, Kiara and Preslee Meadows, Lakyn Hatfield, Jordon and Jessica Meadows, Keegan and Brooke Martin; sisters, Elsie Brookman, Evelena White and Frances Bowling, all of Princeton; his brothers, Junior Meadows of San Bernardino, Calif., Bill Eddie Meadows of Flint, Mich., and Benny Ferguson of Cheesy Creek; a host of nieces and nephews.      Talmadge Clayton Pigg Jr. was buried at Coal City Cemetery, Coal City, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,3 He was born on January 8, 1945 at Princewick, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,2 He died on July 15, 1954 at Princewick, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 9; Died after being hit by a car.1,2 He Talmadge Clayton Pigg Jr., nine, Princewick, son of Mrs. and Mrs. T. C. Pigg was Raleigh County's fourth highway fatality in 1954 yesterday when he died at 11 a.m. after being struck by a car at Princewick. The accident occurred near McKinney's market at 1:30 a.m. and the boy was dead on arrival at a local hospital. State Police said the driver of the car was Wilbur Lawrence Martin, 30, Crab Orchard. The officers said the boy ran from behind a parked truck into the road. Dr. Lee B. Redson, Lillybrook physician, and others prepared a makeshift stretcher to transport the child to the hospital. The boy had attended vacation church school yesterday at the Princewick Baptist church near the store and had stopped at the store to buy chewing gum a few minutes before the accident. He was born at Princewick, Jan. 8, 1945. Mrs. Pigg is the former Georgia Widener. In addition to his parents, survivors include two sisters, Catherine and Dreama, and one brother, Billy, all at home; and the maternal grandfather, W. G. Widener, Mabscott. The body is at the Quesenberry and Webb Funeral Home, and will be taken to the residence at 5:30 p.m. today. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Martin, driver of the death car, is employed as a clerk at the Lillybrook Coal Company Store at Lillybrook. The boy is the second pedestrian to be killed in this year Raleigh County. A woman was struck and killed at MacArthur a few weeks ago. The other Raleigh County fatalities are a driver and a passenger. on July 16, 1954.2
