     Douglas Randolph Cox Douglas Randolph Cox, age 88, formerly of the Oak Level Road, Bassett, died Thursday December 15, 2011 at Ashtabula County Medical Center in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was born November 11, 1923 in Radford to the late Gradon and Helen E. Light Cox. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife Bernice D. Cox. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal W/4 Bronze Stars, UN Service Medal, NDSM, and two Good Conduct Medals. He was a mechanic for several different garages in Martinsville, and was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by his son Douglas W. Cox of Conneaut, Ohio, one brother Carson L. Cox of Salem, VA, five sisters, Bessie Handy of Bassett, Ruby Wass of Salem, VA, Ruth Ann Miles of Radford, VA, Maxine Streetman and Eunice Goff of Wyandotte, MI, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. The funeral service will be Wednesday December 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Ken Cleveland officiating. Harmon was 21 years old and a model young man. He had been working at Harrisburg, Penn, for some two years until about 2 months before his death he came home thinking to recuperate, but he did not improve but grew worse all the time. His suffering at times was intense but he seemed ____ patiently.
He leaves a father, mother, two brothers, beside a host of relatives and friends.
His funeral was conducted at the home Sunday at 2:00 p.m., by Rev. G. W. Woodward, afterwitch the remains were interred in the Cole cemetery, at J. Kyle Cole's. on April 19, 1928.5

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vestal Whitlock; son, Kerry Whitlock of Floyd; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Warren Shelor of Floyd, Cheryl and Larry Beckner of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Ronnie and Donna Shelor, Brian Beckner, Amy Beckner; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Beatrice Whitlock, Bonnie and Dalton Hylton, both of Floyd, Vera Collis of Roanoke, Elizabeth and Wade Eanes of Pilot; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Andrew and Thelma Whitlock of Lynchburg, Ray Whitlock of Floyd; mother-in-law, Olive Austin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Louise Austin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Presbyterian Church of Floyd with the Rev. Shirley Larson officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery with military honors by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Reverend Maurice Wright, the Reverend Doug Jones, the Reverend Marty Moyer and the Reverend Elbert Lee Naff officiating. Interment will follow at Copper Hill Cemetery. John was a life-long resident of the community and a member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren where he served as Church Treasurer, Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School teacher. John was dedicated to the community, friends, family, and church. John is survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy B. Bandy and husband, George (Bill) Bandy Jr; nephews, Stephen Angle, Van and Janice Angle, Noah and Crystal Bandy, and Andrew Bandy; niece, Winona and David Baker; foster sister, Dorothy Williams and family, Sandra and Lynn Shumate, Paul and Carolyn Williams, Terry and Judy Williams, and Janean Williams; special cousins, Sherrell Poff, Sam Wilson, Marie Williams, and Alvah Mae Harman; special cat, Blackberry. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Reverend Marty Moyer, the Reverend Maurice Wright, and the Reverend Douglas Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Copper Hill Cemetery.
