Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Alice Burnett Prillaman and Henry Nicholas Prillaman; sisters, Bessie Prillaman Wiggington and Mary Alice (Peg) Prillaman Caldwell and brother, Henry Nicholas (H.N.) Prillaman. Also preceding her in death are grandsons, Christopher Burnett Daniel, Paul Adrian Powell III, Joseph David Powell and Matthew Johnson Powell. Surviving Ruby are her loving children and spouses, Mary Alice Powell Roberts and Gordon M. Roberts, Jr., Peggy Ann Powell Daniel and Walter L.      Paul Adrian Powell Sr. was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.3 He was born on February 8, 1912 at Virginia.4,5,3 He married Ruby Burnett Prillaman, daughter of Henry Nicholas Prillaman Sr. and Minnie Alice Burnett, on June 3, 1932.1,2,3 Paul Adrian Powell Sr. died on October 13, 2005 at Virginia at age 93.5,3 He Paul Adrian Powell, Sr., 93, of Salem, entered the gate of larger life on Wednesday, October 13, 2005. Born February 8, 1912 and reared in Roanoke, Va., he graduated from Jefferson High School. Paul was a 1933 graduate of Emory and Henry College and as a student, he met, fell in love, and eloped with his wife of 73 years, Ruby Prillaman. While a student at Emory and Henry College he was elected president of both his junior and senior class, served as president of the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity and president of his social fraternity, Phi Gamma Phi. In his junior year he was chosen as member of the College Honor Council and later worked as Editor of the college newspaper. After graduating college in 1933, in the depths of the Great Depression, he embarked on a career in teaching, as well as working two part-time jobs to support his growing family. His hardworking, enterprising spirit began at age 10, when he sold cakes on the Roanoke City Market. Before and during college he worked at a variety of jobs at Norfolk and Western Railroad. The hard work ethic that he possessed led to the founding of Mechanical Development Company, Inc. in Salem. In addition to Mechanical Development Company, he co-founded Medeco Security Locks and Salem Tools, Inc. At the time of his death he served as Chairman of the Board of Mechanical Development Company. Paul was always aware of his humble beginnings and attributed his accomplishments to his dedicated employees and business associates. Throughout his life he remained a supporter and benefactor of many programs that not only benefited his community, but affected the lives of many in other areas. Due partly to these contributions, Emory and Henry college awarded him the Degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa. He was a past member of the Emory and Henry Board of Visitors and the Dominion Bankshares Board of Directors. Paul 's greatest love was his family and he always treasured time spent with them at Claytor Lake during the summer months and Canaan Valley during the winter months. He will always be remembered for his enterprising, creative spirit, unique personality and generosity. Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Burnett Prillaman Powell and his parents, William Morris Powell and Mary Sarah Falls Powell, siblings Weymouth Powell, Elizabeth Powell, Frances Powell Wyatt, Reginald Powell, Wallace Powell and Martha Powell Clarke. Also preceding him in death are grandsons, Christopher Burnett Daniel, Paul Adrian Powell, III, Joseph David Powell and Matthew Johnson Powell. Surviving Paul are his loving children and spouses, Mary Alice Powell Roberts and Gordon M. Roberts, Jr., Peggy Ann Powell Daniel and Walter L. Daniel, William Nicholas Powell and Catherine Hall Powell, Paul Adrian Powell, Jr. and Donna Johnson Powell , John David Powell and Sherry Beadling Powell ; grandchildren and spouses, Gordon McNeely Roberts, III and Carolyn Scott Roberts, Alice Adrian Roberts, William West Roberts, Walter Linwood Daniel, Jr. and Emily Berisford Daniel, Nancy Daniel Duffy and Douglas Chapman Duffy, Gerald Anthony Daniel, William Nicholas Powell, Jr. and Amy Bushar Powell, John Paul Powell, James Stratton Powell, Waid Burnett Powell and Laura Kidd Powell, John David Powell, Jr. and Maguire Fallon Powell, Lesley Prillaman Powell, Samantha Green Powell, Robert Beadling Powell and Michael Joseph Powell; great-grandchildren, David, Steven and Katie Roberts, Foster and Daniel Burton, Paul and Turner Duffy, Kirill and Alla Daniel and Liam Powell; sister Ruth Powell Mason and W. The family deeply appreciated the loving care provided by the godly caregivers coordinated by Mrs. Juanita Green, the medical personnel, specifically Dr. Victor Bell and Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Visitation will be Sunday, October 16, 2005 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lotz Funeral Home in Salem. The Rev. Dr. Robert Copenhaver will conduct the funeral service on Monday, October 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Lotz Funeral Home Chapel with interment immediately following at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
