     Marian Lindberg Marian (nee Lindberg) (Pattison) Withrow, age 84, of Tonawanda, formerly of Wheatfield, died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, after a brief illness. Born in Jamestown, New York, she was the daughter of the late Seth and Mary Mae (nee Fee) Lindberg and had been a resident of Tonawanda for more than 20 years. Marian and her late husband, Benjamin, cared for more than 60 mentally and physically handicapped Niagara County Foster children during more than 20 years of service. She was a member of the Heart Parents Association of Buffalo Children's Hospital, the Shawnee Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary, and the Niagara County Foster Parents' Association. She was the beloved wife of the late Benjamin J. Pattison, who died in 1983. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Withrow; her daughter, Cheryl (James) Ryan of Lockport; three sons, Jim (Jamie) Pattison of Tonawanda, Steve (Liz) Pattison of Pinehurst, North Carolina, and David (Teresa) Pattison of West Seneca; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, and two special foster children, Scott Rutherford of Lockport, and Susan Beasock of Niagara Falls. "Shorty" Shumate died on August 22, 2000 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 91.4,3 He Hursie C. Shumate, 91, of Sophia, WV, formerly of Saulsville, WV, died August 22nd, 2000, at a Personal Care Home near Princeton. He was born February 1st, 1909, in Saulsville, he was the son of the late Tollison and Hattie Tilley Shumate. He was a graduate of Milam High School and was a World War II verteran. He held a bachelor of science degree from Concord College and a master of science degree and principal's certificate from Marshall University. He completed advanced courses at Duke University and WVU. He was a teacher for 35 years in Wyoming County schools, including homebound students, penmanship and coaching basketball and marbles. He enjoyed golfing, square dancing, crafting jewelry, traveling and writing. He had a Web site on the history of Saulsville. He was a member of the Wyoming County Genealogical Society and the Wyoming County Association of Retired School Employees. He was active in the Wyoming and Raleigh County Senior Citizens centers and "Well, I'll Bee Club" and State Parks VIPP. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Marie Tolliver Shumate; a son and spouse, Donnell and Dreama Shumate of Princeton; a daughter Rose Marie Bell of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Terry Bell and Paul Gunter, both of Morgantown, and Sharon Ann Kulkusky, of Selma, N.C; three great grandchildren, Brandon Gunter, of Morgantown, and Megan and Zachary Kulkusky, of Selma; and a sister, Marie Shumate Parks, of Eustis, Fla. He was also preceded in death by two brothers Hurley Shumate and Wanus Shumate; two sisters Violet North and Arcie Worley; and three young brothers and sisters. Friends may call at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, until the 11 a.m. service, with the Revs. Buddy Ray Wimmer and Bryce Phillips Officiating. Entombment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

He was the best damn father and grandfahter ever. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 24, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 East Main St., Reynoldsburg. on April 22, 1999.4
